Course Description

In the course, Latin is taught from scratch. The course covers the largest part of Latin grammar and syntax, except for the tense system and some advanced topics, such as the subjunctive and the gerund(ive). Hearing, speaking and writing Latin, all on an elementary level, are an integral part of the course. Attention is also paid to cultural aspects of Roman civilization, such as the Roman family, slavery, the geography of the Roman empire, mythology, and Roman education.

Course Description

Advanced Latin grammar including the tense system, the subjunctive, and the gerund(ive) are studied through simplified versions of original Latin authors, such as Ovid and Livy. The course includes an introduction to original Latin literature, offering accessible readings from classical Latin authors, such as Phaedrus, Horace, Pliny the Younger, Seneca and Cicero, all of whom are of constitutive importance to the Latin literary heritage.

Course Description

This is an introductory Latin course taught in French. It introduces students to beginner Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, enabling reading, writing, listening, and speaking comprehension. Language exercises, homework and the final require language growth and understanding. This course develops students' ability to identify and analyze grammatical constructions and improve general comprehension skills.
