Course Description
This course analyzes how war and international relations has evolved in the face of new technologies in the twenty-first century, through the study of several over-arching themes in action in a series of case studies. Classic geopolitical power, the FIRC (Foreign Imposed Regime Changes) operations are less and less efficient to create political spaces. The course discusses the following: the failure of the military intervention in Afghanistan, the failure of the neo-conservative project of modernization by the powers in Iraq and the Middle East, tensions surrounding the military control of Tibet by China, failure of military control of the routes of global trade due to maritime pirates. These failures during the 2001-2011 decade explain the blockages in Syria (since 2011) and Ukraine (in 2014). In 2009 in Iran, then in 2011, the revolutions in the Middle East and the Arab Spring created the possibility of unblocking the geopolitics situations blocked since the 1980s. But after five years, the results of the revolutions in the Middle East have been disappointing, ambiguous, or led to a civil war. Only Tunisia has been able to put into place a new democratic space. The multiplication of players creates a new world space that is radically different. These players are not only the new BRICS states, but the entirety of new economic, political and social players: NGO, FTN, institutions, organizations, individuals. The world is becoming equally multipolar and multi-centric. The new world spaces are now everywhere: from the South China Seas to the forests of Brazil, as well as the continental plates of the Arctic. This course questions how we think about the new geopolitical conditions of war and peace in the global village in this new world situation.

Course Description
This course is open to students interested in both European Union (EU) affairs and International Relations. It aims at understanding what role the EU can play in a world confronted to new and daunting challenges. In a global context in which power politics between nation-states is on the rise and multilateral rules are jeopardized by populist governments, the real challenge for Europe is precisely to assess its capacity to survive and defend its common interests on the basis of multilateral rules and cooperation rather than on the use of force. Students consider if Europe is capable of overcoming its internal problems in order to cope with global challenges and whether the lack of leadership in the United States provides an opportunity for Europe.

Course Description
This course provides an introduction to a field of study that is often subdivided into five or more disciplines. The subdivision list includes International Relations, Comparative Government, Political Theory/Philosophy, Public Policy/Public Administration and finally a state-centric discipline which depends on your country of origin (i.e. American Politics or Dutch Politics to name two). The course starts with a simple examination of the meaning of the word “politics.” How much of politics is really about solving distribution problems? In other words, a limited amount of resources in society must be distributed in some equitable manner. After this initial discussion, the course moves to consider the central themes of Macro politics, with particular emphasis on the classification of political systems, political ideology, and political authority. Themes in Micro politics are addressed in the second half of the course. Micro politics refers to the study of how individuals fit into their political system. Micro political topics include political socialization, political groups, elections, voting, political parties, party systems, and political leadership. The course ends with a look at system performance and how to bring about change in political systems when performance is wanting. To help students understand and relate to the political realm in which they exist, each student is required to embark on an individual research paper about their country of origin.

It examines the relationship between efforts at socio-economic transformation and the politics of state origin, consolidation, and development in non-capitalist politics. This course explores the role and character of state institutions in these processes, specifically the function of ideology in non-capitalist, anti-systemic politics. It focuses on the inter-relationship and interaction of anti-systemic politics with international development of systemic state structures.

Course Description
This course deals with the links between the European Union (EU) and International Relations (IR). It addresses how the academic field of International Relations has theorized both the European Union's integration and its role in Global Politics. For analytical purposes, the European Union is considered an international organization (IO). Notwithstanding its specific characteristics, this conceptual move allows students to analyze the European Union through the lens of International Relations theories. This course presents various IR theoretical perspectives to illuminate different questions pertaining to the EU and more specifically to its role in the field of global security. It looks at three major themes: (1) European Union and Integration theories; (2) EU power or not: EU in Global Security;(3) Dynamics of IOs: the case of the EU.

Course Description

The International Internship course develops vital business skills employers are actively seeking in job candidates. This course is comprised of two parts: an internship, and a hybrid academic seminar. Students are placed in an internship within a sector related to their professional ambitions. The hybrid academic seminar, conducted both online and in-person, analyzes and evaluates the workplace culture and the daily working environment students experience. The course is divided into eight career readiness competency modules as set out by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), which guide the course’s learning objectives. During the academic seminar, students reflect weekly on their internship experience within the context of their host culture by comparing and contrasting their experiences with their global internship placement with that of their home culture. Students reflect on their experiences in their internship, the role they have played in the evolution of their experience in their internship placement, and the experiences of their peers in their internship placements. Students develop a greater awareness of their strengths relative to the career readiness competencies, the subtleties and complexities of integrating into a cross-cultural work environment, and how to build and maintain a career search portfolio.
