My experience as an English conversational leader has been among the most rewarding opportunities during my time abroad in Spain.
The greatest lesson that I learned through this experience is that mistakes and obstacles are the most valuable teaching tools. In my own life, I have struggled with the stigma of mistakes, but from this experience, it is very apparent that messing up is extremely important for personal growth, for both students and teachers. I have not had any opportunities to be in a teaching position prior to this internship. Thus, there were many obstacles that simply extended from my lack of experience. I was unsure of how to approach teaching, but I knew the only way to improve was to take the leap and learn from my actions as I went along.
Overall, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and all that I have learned throughout it. Moving forward, I will definitely take the compassion, understanding, and leadership skills I gathered from this experience and incorporate them into my own life. I have also gained a lot of confidence in my leadership and public speaking skills, which are absolutely essential for my future endeavors. I hope that my students appreciated this unique opportunity to connect as much as I did, which seems likely given the way they acted and engaged in the classroom. This opportunity has greatly enhanced my overall study abroad experience, by giving me the opportunity to not only be an international student but a teacher as well.
