This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Japan through the UCEAP program at Osaka University. Although my time there was brief, it was truly transformative. This hands-on experience allowed me to enhance my language skills both inside and outside the classroom, while gaining a deeper understanding of Japanese society and customs. I had the chance to learn through the vibrant community of students, teachers, and staff, which enriched my experience even further.
I was able to apply my classroom knowledge in real-world settings, from shopping at Rinku Town mall and Tajiri grocery stores to weekend trips to places like Kyoto, Tokyo, and Mie. I’m incredibly grateful for this experience, as it not only improved my language proficiency but also allowed me to connect with and learn from so many people. Beyond language learning, I gained a greater sense of independence and self-awareness. It was truly a life-changing opportunity, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Japanese language and culture.
