Dates and Eligibility

Program requirements are about helping you find your best match in a new academic setting abroad, and eligibility helps you narrow your choices to find the best program where you can succeed and thrive.

To be eligible to apply to UCEAP, you must meet the following basic criteria:

  • You are enrolled as a degree-seeking student with a UC campus, are on filing fee status, or are on an approved educational leave or other approved leave status.
  • You are in good academic standing as defined by your UC campus.

If you meet the basic criteria—good news! You meet the qualifications to apply to UCEAP. If you are unsure about your eligibility, contact the UCEAP study abroad advisor for the program.

Note for transfer students: Incoming transfer students are eligible to apply for UCEAP programs but must check with their campus study abroad office to determine how soon they can participate in study abroad.

Program Requirements

You must maintain your eligibility for the program, including the required minimum GPA, from the time of application through the end of your program. If you have concerns about your eligibility, contact the UCEAP study abroad advisor for the program.

The following are the minimum requirements to participate in this program. Some requirements are set by the host country, the host university, or third-party providers. Most requirements must be met at the time you apply. However, you have until departure to meet the class level and most language requirements.

Note for transfer students: Unless specifically noted, your transfer GPA can be considered at the time of application if you don’t yet have a UC GPA. If you have less than 3 quarters/2 semesters at UC, your transfer and UC GPAs can be combined.
