About The Program

Earn up to a year of Chinese language in Beijing. Cultural activities, excursions, and focused learning in small classes make this an experience to remember. The language tutor program at the Peking University School of Chinese as a Second Language ensures your language skills progress rapidly. Practice Chinese as you order delicious dumplings, roast duck, or chewy noodles. Get lost among the city’s enchanting hútòng: twisting residential alleys formed hundreds of years ago. Each ancient courtyard residence, or siheyuan, is connected to another to create close-knit communities. Upon return, you’ll have a new understanding of a nation that’s at the center of world affairs.

Where you'll study

Peking University (PKU) has a pivotal place in Chinese history as the nation’s first modern national university. Its role as an epicenter for intellectual, political, and cultural revolution has shaped modern China as we know it. Consistently high academic rankings attract ambitious students from all over China and the world. Standing proudly just miles from the striking Summer Palace and Imperial Gardens, Peking University is also an ideal place for first-time residents of Beijing. The large campus is in the Haidian District in the western suburbs of the city. The university consists of faculties in humanities, social sciences, science and medicine, and information technology as well as research institutes and national laboratories. Among the PKU faculty are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Third World Academy of Sciences. On campus, you’ll find the iconic Boya Pagoda by Weiming Lake and other beautiful study spots with traditional Chinese architecture at every turn.
