About The Program
Acquire well-balanced language skills as you live and study among the temples, shrines, and other historic sites in Kyoto, Japan’s former capital city. This is a Japanese immersion study experience like no other, and it's appropriate for all levels. In addition to the Japanese language study experience, you will take courses on Japanese society and culture (anime, manga, and ikebana) to enrich your understanding of traditional and modern Japan. Most students advance at least a semester in their language skills; some advance a full year of Japanese language ability.
Where you'll study
Doshisha University considers internationalism one of the pillars of its mission. The Center for Japanese Language and Culture offers classes at the Imadegawa campus, located downtown near the Kyoto Imperial palace. The university has created a large network of universities abroad and welcomes international students, offering support services and resources. A Global Village lets students consult study coordinators, speak foreign languages outside of Japanese, and see overseas broadcasts and newspapers. Recognizing the quality of the language education, the Japanese government has accredited the center's programs.
