Cost

Experience the high-quality education of the University of California anywhere in the world! With UCEAP, study abroad is built into UC and financial aid is specially packaged to cover expenses abroad. Defray costs with the help of UCEAP scholarships—every UC student can apply for a Global Scholarship of up to $2,000.

The following estimates reflect the current costs of study abroad based on average spending habits. Use the estimates to get a general sense of costs and compare your options.

UCEAP estimates include UC tuition, round-trip airfare, housing, meals, program excursions and activities, passport and visa fees, books, supplies, and other living expenses like laundry or metro tickets.

Cohort

Beginning in fall 2022, the University of California Board of Regents implemented the Tuition Stability Plan. The plan helps students and families budget for a UC education by keeping UC tuition stable and predictable and providing new financial aid resources. Determining Residency

There are four requirements you must fulfill to be considered a California resident by UC. If you lived in California more than a year before enrolling at UC, you’re most likely a resident. If you’re unsure, see UC’s residency requirements.

How Residency Affects Tuition

Your residency status with UC affects your tuition, whether you are on campus in California or abroad with UCEAP. If you are currently paying out-of-state tuition, those fees will still apply while abroad. Why? Because UCEAP retains your UC enrollment—there is no break in attendance. As a result, your UC tuition stays the same, too. Learn more about residency at UC.

Graduate Students

UCEAP collects graduate and professional fees on behalf of your UC campus while you’re abroad. This affects the overall cost of the program. Contact your graduate advisor and UCEAP finance for more information.

Tip: Before calculating the cost, check the eligibility for this program to make sure it’s open to graduate students. You can find programs for graduate students using UCEAP’s Program Builder (select Class Level > Graduate from the filter options).

Your Estimate

For example, we assess all items listed here as fees to your UCEAP Portal account. Financial aid students can estimate excess aid by subtracting total estimated program costs paid to UCEAP from their financial aid award for study abroad.

After application, participants receive a comprehensive budget listing all fees associated with their study abroad experience.
