About The Program

Head to Ghana’s rural villages for an unforgettable experience in community development. Combining academics and fieldwork, you’ll build marketable skills in your field. University of Ghana faculty and medical experts teach seminars that prepare you for community service outside the capital of Accra. In a team-learning setting, you’ll help improve access to affordable energy, provide health services, or learn about managing agricultural resources. Gain insight into Ghana’s history and people with trips to the Ashanti Nation’s Manhyia Palace or to a slave-trading fortress. Take in the country’s natural wonders while crossing a rainforest canopy walk or wading toward the thundering Wii Waterfall.

Where you'll study

The University of Ghana consistently ranks in the top 10 universities of Africa. Its variety of colleges can accommodate students from just about any UC major. On campus, you may find research projects and collaborations tackling some of the most pressing global problems of our time: malaria, climate change, food production, development, and poverty. Among its research centers, you can find medical research, tropical pharmacology, population studies, environmental studies, and economics. Located just 10 miles from Ghana’s capital Accra, the university is UCEAP’s most long-standing partnership in Africa. The campus features tree-lined gardens and distinctive buildings like the open-air theater built into the slope of Legon Hill.
