You can choose to stay in an on-campus dorm on the beautiful, green East China Normal University campus or live with a local family on this program. You’ll select your preferred housing choice during the application process and your CIEE advisor will make the arrangements.
You have two dorm options depending on how far you want to take your language skills. You can room with another student on the program or with a local Chinese student. The campus hall is a five-story facility with 24-hour security and an elevator. The floors are divided by gender and students share restrooms and showers. The campus residence is on the East China Normal University campus where you’ll find lush green spaces, small forests of tall trees, gardens with stone tables, and waterways – be sure not to miss cat island. Shared kitchens and bathrooms are available on each floor. Take your laptop and books to the study lounge for study time.

Stay with a Chinese host family to immerse in the language and lifestyle of Shanghai. Host families will speak only Chinese, so this is the ideal situation if you want to truly master the language and dialect.
