Course Description
This course develops models of the goods, money, and labor markets, and examines issues in macroeconomic policy. Topics discussed include macroeconomic relationships, consumption, investment, money and employment. Macro-dynamic relationships, especially those linking inflation and unemployment, are also considered. Exchange rates and open economy macroeconomics are also addressed. In the last part of the course, topics include the determinants and theories of economic growth, productivity and technology, the dynamics of the business cycle, counter-cyclical policy, and the relationship between micro and macro policy in the context of recent Australian experience.

Course Description

This course examines Australian media with an emphasis on its political nature and issues of policy, regulation, ownership, governance and local content. Students are encouraged to actively, and critically, examine their own media use. Drawing on this, and a range of case studies, students engage with debates about journalism and ethics, the nature of commercial and public media, and the changing shape of news and current affairs. Major topics include advertising and commercial television, alternative media, talkback radio and the "cash for comment" inquiry, and journalism and ethics. Upon completion of the course, students have developed a strong grasp of the major thematic issues influencing Australian media.

This course examines psychological assessment, personality, and psychopathology. The assessment portion of the course will include key concepts related to personality and intelligence testing. The psychopathology portion of the course is an introduction to the study of maladaptive behaviour and mental disorders. The course will provide an overview of common mental disorders, including anxiety, mood, eating, childhood, and psychotic disorders. Emphasis will be placed on diagnostic criteria, contemporary theories of psychopathology, and empirically supported approaches to treating mental disorders.

Course Description

This course examines the educational relevance of sport and outdoor education. Through both practical experience and theoretical framing, the educational relevance of sport and outdoor education is investigated and analyzed. This investigation and analysis will draw comparisons and contrasts between sport and outdoor education via autoethnographic methods. A philosophical perspective will be taken in regards to comprehending this investigation and analysis, informed primarily by the theories of John Dewey as they pertain to understandings of experiential education.

Peace and Conflict Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study with a commitment to the non-violent management and resolution of conflict from the local to the international level. This course covers key theoretical approaches in peace and conflict studies research, enabling students to understand the relevance of theory to practice in this field. Students engage in dialogue on questions such as how we identify actors in peace and in conflict, and how we can work against differing forms of violence and reconstitute just and participatory social and political order in the wake of violence.
