This course provides a study of the history of clothing and fashion in Chile during the twentieth century. It provides an analysis of the relationship between the social construction of appearance and specific historical contexts (i.e. social, political, economic, and cultural) and demonstrates the role of cultural models as regulatory mechanisms in determining the way and style of dressing.

This course analyzes the historical development of humanitarianism and human rights over the last two hundred and fifty years. It traces the emergence of the idea of humanity and its expression in the fundamental texts of the Atlantic Revolutions. The course includes a brief discussion on the rise of humanitarianism in the nineteenth century, the elaboration of the doctrine of human rights in the mid-twentieth century, its reformulation in the second half of the twentieth century and its growing importance in international relations, and in the way the relations between states and individuals is understood.

This course provides a study of Chilean sign language. It discusses deaf culture in Chile and emphasizes the development of communication skills and building relationships with the deaf community. The class focuses on the effective use of basic vocabulary and sentence structure.

This elective seminar provides an introduction to three of the main theoretical-conceptual traditions of urban sociology -- Chicago School, NeoStructuralist Criticism and Urban Social Movements -- in order to recognize current urban phenomena and challenges. Special attention is placed on discussing and investigating racial tensions in the city, including the relationship of racial tension and migration (both national and international), the socio-territorial disposition of different ethnic groups, and the socio-spatial barriers of the city.

This course examines a representative corpus of poetry by Chilean women, from the 19th century to the present day, including Mapuche poets. Topics covered include: gender and poetry; poetics of women writers in the early twentieth century(melodrama, madness, eroticism); poetics of hatching: eroticism, transgression and citizenship; heterogeneous poetics: sexuality, wandering, indigenous voices.

This course covers the basic concepts of taxonomy, the main species of Chilean fauna, protected areas in Chile, techniques of wildlife management and monitoring, and provides an analysis of the main socio-environmental problems of wildlife management, particularly in protected areas. It focuses on sustainability and effective management of animal wildlife and areas reserved for conservation, protection, research and recreation.

This course examines the interdisciplinary links between sociolinguistics and pragmatics, specifically reflecting on the development of both fields as applied to the modern Spanish language.

This graphic design course discusses technical drawing and CAD specifically as a drawing tool used to transmit the design of a three-dimensional piece through a clear and unequivocal graphic expression, making it possible to quickly perform spatial analysis.

This course provides a study of game theory, the study of situations in which decisions are made based on the actions and reactions of other individuals. Students strategically analyze situations of individual and organizational interaction using the framework of game theory and create models and interpret the results in order to help predict the social behavior of participants of a game.
