This course provides a study of the basic laws and general methods of management activities. Through learning the basic functions of management, the development history of management theory, the comparison of Chinese and foreign management concepts, management and organization design, management types and methods, and management innovation, students can understand the historical evolution process of management theory and the development trend of management practice. At then end, students master the basic laws and general methods of management activities. This course gives students a preliminary understanding of all aspects of management such as business operations, organizational behavior, and general management, and provide students with opportunities to improve their skills in solving management problems. It also provides training opportunities for students to improve their decision-making ability under limited time and incomplete information.

This course is an introduction to Taiwan's Hakka (KeJia) language and phonetic system by use of Pinyin. Students will use Hakka to introduce themselves and engage in simple conversations. Assessment: Oral participation (50%), final speech presentation (40%), attendance (10%).

This course provides a foundation of the principles of international finance and trade. It examines contemporary development and basic theory, the characteristics and internal structure of financial and trade operations under the open economy, and the evolution of international finance and trade in the era of globalization, including opportunities and challenges. The course covers the international monetary system: evolution and trends; balance of payments: pattern, theory and policy; foreign exchange market: structure, efficiency and derivatives; exchange rate theory: main basic theory; international capital flows: evolution, motivation, effects and management; international financial markets: composition, innovation and effects; international financial crisis: types, evolution and risk management; regional monetary integration and international policy coordination: choices under globalization; contemporary China's trade and finance: development, openness and international influence.

This course addresses the effective use of cloud technology in digital cultural and creative projects including: versatile digital publishing, website design, web community development, digital imaging, animation, video and media production management. As a specific objective, we emphasize to cap off a team project more than an individual task. This course takes account of the inter-discipline of humanities and information technology through media application. The learning method focuses on problem solving oriented approach. The learning activity designates a hands-on assignment and requires a complete output in the form of publishable presentation.

This course focuses on emprise in Chinese literature. Specifically, this course studies a genre of fiction that is uniquely Chinese as the genre usually involves elements including: Kung Fu, Chinese traditional medicine, and other exclusively Chinese cultural elements. The course examines common themes of this popular literature genre by studying key works of important authors such as Jin Yong, Gu Long, and others. Assessment: written reports and class participation (40%), a creative fictional piece (30,000 to 100,000 Chinese characters) OR a final written report (60%).

This course examines the method and process of problem analysis and mathematical model establishment; the algorithm design strategy and its key points--recursion, brute force, divide and conquer, greed, dynamic programming, backtracking and branch and bound, random, approximation, etc.; and the expression of algorithm complexity and the basic method of complexity analysis.
