What is culture? What is technology? How are the two related? What is our relationship with each or both? How do we live in a culture surrounded by technological objects, artifacts, structures, and institutions? How does technology change culture, and vice versa?
This course is designed to provide students with the theoretical tools to begin asking questions for themselves and seeking better answers. The course examines key themes in technology studies that involve the social, political, economic, and cultural contexts in which technological artifacts, services, and platforms are produced, distributed, networked, and used.

Through software-assisted learning, you will be able to intuitively understand fundamental mathematical concepts such as linear algebra, and delve into advanced topics like the PageRank algorithm, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), function fitting, numerical integration, solution of ordinary differential equations, and machine learning methods.

Focusing on topical aspects of China's past and history, this course provides a bird's-eye view of China's modern transformations. Topics include political regimes, industrialization, economic structures, languages, urban development, rural society, family and population, environmental protection, and climate change. Through a variety of textual and visual learning materials, students acquire the basic conceptual and comparative tools to appreciate the rise of China within historical and global contexts.

The course covers topics of current interest in astrophysics and cosmology. Students independently search for relevant publications, learn to give comprehendible lectures, write a clear and comprehensive essay, and gain a deep understanding of a subject of their own choice within astrophysics.

In this course, students explore the process of manufacture, i.e. the creation of components or products from basic raw materials. They also consider the effectiveness of process selection, material selection, and process economies. Additionally, students learn techniques used in Computer Aided Design and Manufacture. This is undertaken through both industry-based CAD/CAM exercises and an introduction to the technologies involved in the research and development of CAD/CAM systems.
