This course is part of the Laurea Magistrale degree program and is intended for advanced level students. Enrollment is by permission of the instructor. This course provides, through a comparative and international perspective, an understanding of: the criminal justice system and its changes introduced through the processes of internationalization and Europeanization, at the same time highlighting the importance of the comparative approach; the constitutional principles in criminal matters and the foundational concepts of criminal law, the structure of its main principles and categories, the punishment and the classification of different penalties; and the European criminal law developments, both regarding the legislation and the case law, as well as its influence on national criminal justice and law systems. Throughout this course, the theoretical framework is analyzed in the light of judicial decisions of national Constitutional Courts, the Interamerican Court of Human Rights and, finally, the International Criminal Court. This course provides a general understanding of the international framework, the European criminal law, and the complex issues relating to the relationship between criminal law and human rights. The first part of the course examines the most important provisions of international criminal law. The course uses both the comparative method and the analysis of (national and international) leading cases, in order to show empirical examples of the various issues related to the protection of human rights.

This course examines algorithms and representational schemes used in artificial intelligence, AI search techniques (e.g., heuristic search, constraint satisfaction, etc.) for solving both optimal and satisficing tasks, tasks such as game playing (adversarial search), planning, and natural language processing. It discusses and examines the history and future of AI and the ethics surrounding the use of AI in society.

This course focuses on childhood cognitive development, a field of study within developmental psychology focusing on how the ability to think and reason develops throughout childhood. The course discusses how children learn to do many of the tasks we accomplish on a daily basis, including speaking language, understanding other people’s thoughts, inhibiting impulses, memorizing and recalling information, and problem-solving.

This course aids in the acquisition of basic knowledge about algorithms and data structures. It discusses and instructs on evaluation methods and programming techniques for making good programs.
Prerequisites for regular course students are "Practice of Information Processing" and "Computer Seminar I." Taking "Fundamentals of Information Science I" is strongly recommended. Prerequisites for JYPE/DEEP/IMAC-U students are similar to the courses above.
Students should have some knowledge of computer languages, preferably C or Python.

This course offers a rigorous examination of the theory and practices relevant to brand management. The course starts with a look at the evolution of animal body plans and physiological systems through the radiations of animal life and leads on to a series of lectures on animal adaptations in marine environments. The course then looks at the evolution and diversification of vertebrate body plans, leading into a detailed study of the mammals. The course ends with a section on animal associations, including symbiosis and parasitism, and considers the adaptations associated with living in or on other animals.

Retailing globally is in a state of rapid evolution – driven by technological advances, consumer trends, and global market dynamics. In this challenging and engaging environment, retail managers make complex decisions involving: retail strategy; complex retail channels; customer trends; retail locations; merchandise and service planning; training and motivating staff; the pricing, presentation and promotion of merchandise; and the impact of retail operations upon people, society and the environment. Agility and diverse capabilities are necessary to make these decisions efficiently and effectively, to create an edge in mature and crowded marketplaces. Omni-channel Retailing has a dual focus to: (1) introduce the fundamental concepts and principles of retail; and (2) explore the frontiers of retailing globally. This involves examining strategic and tactical retailing issues in complex retail environments—to enhance competitive advantage.

Environmental economics provides theories and techniques, which help students understand some important and controversial issues, such as climate change, nuclear power, recycling policy, and traffic congestion charging. Frameworks taught at the course can be used to evaluate various important policy questions such as: should air regulations be tightened or loosened? Does economic development necessarily result in a high environmental price? Is there a "Race to the Bottom" in environmental regulation? Are we running out of oil and other natural resources? What are the costs of climate change in the UK and other countries? Analysis of various political facets of environmental policymaking are an important part of the course.
