This course provides an introduction to the fundamental aspects of modern-day climate change. It develops an understanding of how and why climate is changing; examines the role of humans in driving this change; and looks to future rates and impacts of global warming particularly in the field of atmospheric and oceanic science.

This course surveys the first thousand years of English literature from the Middle age to its coming of age in the English Renaissance period (1485-c.1640). The assigned reading will be situated in their literary and historical context, and we will consider when and how knowledge of historical context enhances our understanding of a text’s meaning and the extent to which we can treat literature as a mirror of history. The course also explores the development of the English literary tradition and its salient characteristics and concerns. 

This course explores development and various aspects of development within the themes of migration and gender. The course also features two practitioners working in the field to advise on current field conditions and ongoing problems in the development world.

This course exposes students to representative opera works by era and genre. It instructs on the elements of opera and the correct sentiment map to answer the questions: What is Opera? How do you fully enjoy Opera? 

Economics is divided into two major subfields, microeconomics and macroeconomics. This course provides an introduction to microeconomics, which attempts to understand the behavior of individual entities such as markets, firms, and households. Consistent with the idea of a “principles” class, the course focuses on a core set of fundamental concepts to understand various microeconomic issues such as scarcity; tradeoffs; opportunity cost; incentive; marginal thinking; exchange; efficiency; information, and so on.

This course is designed to help students understand the psychology of persuasion and consumer behavior as they relate to marketing communications. It provides an overview of the key psychological concepts and theories and how those apply to consumer behavior and advertising persuasion.
