Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the relationship between brain and behavior. The course focuses on key questions such as: organization of the brain, effects of drugs on human behavior; sight, hearing, movement production, and the brain involvement. The course integrates clinical topics, such as Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia, examines fMRI research methods and findings, and emphasizes the key principles of nervous system function. Although no background knowledge is required other than an introductory psychology course, an interest in biological bases of behavior or neuroscience is helpful.

Course Description
The course teaches classical theater in Bali, Indonesia, an island well-known for its varied theatrical genres from sacred trance séances to masked dances that tell stories from Balinese history and the great Hindu epics. This class presents not only the various theatrical forms on the island but also their history, ritual, and social roles and transformations. There is a compulsory one-week field trip to Bali in the middle of the semester to learn how to stage a traditional Balinese theatrical genre from Balinese maestros through daily practice sessions, as well as how to be comfortable with learning and performing culturally-specific genres. In the end of the semester, the class performs a Balinese theatrical production on stage.

Course Description

This course introduces students to field biology including the basic techniques involved, sampling design, and basic data gathering and data management. Through local field study sessions, students experience and encounter tropical environs and habitats, namely coastal, mangrove, and primary and secondary forests. The course includes a 1-week field trip to the luscious tropical island, Pulau Tioman, off East coast of Peninsular Malaysia where students experience unique tropical ecosystems such as rainforest, freshwater stream, mangroves, and the coral reefs under the guidance of experienced field biologists.

Course Description

This course focuses on the colonial period in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. In addition to the political, social, and economic effects of colonial rule in each of these countries, attention will be given to the evolution of 'Indochina' as an entity created by the French and to its impact on relations among the Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Lao peoples. These issues will be examined in the context of precolonial history and as a backdrop to the destructive warfare, that followed independence.
