Course Description
This course explores the purposes and operation of analog and digital electronic systems. Topics include: electronic signals and systems; electronic instrumentation-- sensors and transducers; amplifiers and analog electronic subsystems; electronic components and integrated circuits; digital electronic subsystems and analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion; power systems and energy conversion. *Previous coursework in Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Physics are required. Course Description
This course covers the fundamentals of journalistic communication and the techniques and journalistic expression in the audiovisual media. Other topics include: the historical origins of journalistic information; its social, economic and political causes; its evolution and its impact on contemporary societies; rhetoric and argument in informative speeches; theory and analysis of the information in the audiovisual media; and globalization and social change in 21st century journalism. Students analyze and comment on journalistic genres and new informational formats in the fields of audiovisual communication like radio, television and Internet. NOTE: This course is the same as COMM 105, but taught in English.

Course Description

This course provides a study of cross-cultural and management issues related to management in an international marketplace. It examines the opportunities and challenges that companies face when expanding their activities internationally and dealing with international competitors in their home markets. This course on the history of today's world is framed specifically for the degree in audiovisual communication, therefore special attention is given to the analysis of films, opera fragments, popular music recordings, and other types of audiovisual documents. Topics covered include: "modernity" and its discontents; the Great War; revolution and imperial readjustment; crisis of the liberal order; World War II; the United Nations; the Cold War and the construction of Europe; the 1970s and the origins of "globalization"; the end of communism; from the Malthusian crisis to the environmental crisis.

This course provides a study of the history and development of mathematics, from its origins to the present. It is divided in two parts: mathematics through the 18th century (pre-Euclidean mathematics; Golden Age; second Alexandrian period; medieval mathematics; 16th century; the scientific revolution; development of calculation and mechanics in the 18th century), and mathematics of the last two centuries (from Gauss to the foundation of analysis; foundation of mathematics; Gödel theorems and computation; birth of modern algebra; geometrization of space in the 19th century; differential geometry and applications; algebraic geometry and applications; physical motivations of functional analysis).
