This course explores the role of the media in contemporary liberal democracies and the actors who intervene in the process of political communication: governments, political parties, journalists, interest groups, and social movements. It also focuses on the main theories on the social influence of the media and how to run an electoral campaign (interviews, debates, polls, ads, etc.)

This course provides knowledge and tools to effectively communicate and overcome challenges in an increasingly multicultural environment. Topics include: verbal, para-verbal, and non-verbal communication; cultural identity, values, stereotypes, and self-awareness; intercultural sensitivity; intercultural communication in various professional fields including health and education.

This course focuses on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and understanding the implications of these techniques in creative processes and in society as a whole. It discusses the intersection of technology, creativity, and culture, and how AI can contribute to these areas. This course examines the potential of AI as a tool for artistic expression and creativity but also the ethical implications of AI, particularly in the context of art, culture and society.

This course offers a study of basic linguistic elements to address everyday situations with predictable content. It focuses on linguistic skills in oral comprehension and expression, as well as in reading and writing texts with a simple syntactic structure. In this course, students use simple structures to communicate information on the most common everyday topics. At the end of this course, students will have reached level A1.1 or A1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Note that the ¨II¨ in the Spanish title of the course (Francés II) refers to the semester in which students can take it, not the level. 

This course offers a study of the basic phenomena of classical physics including fundamental concepts of fluids, thermodynamics, and waves. Topics include: fluid statics; fluid dynamics; calorimetry; heat transfer; thermodynamics of an ideal gas; wave motion; superposition of waves; sound waves.

This course offers a study of quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques and data analysis computer programs. Topics include: statistical inference; statistical estimation; statistical decision; conformance testing; relationship tests for categorical variables; tests based on the comparison of two population means; analysis of variance (ANOVA); non-parametric tests for comparing two or more distributions; relationship tests based on correlations; linear regression models; nonlinear regression models.

This course examines human rights, their connection to the concept of citizenship, how and when they originated, and who their bearers are.

This course offers a critical view on the current mainstream economic and financial model, including its exhaustion, contradictions, and unsustainability. It explores the potential that a new approach to the use of money could have to overcome the main global challenges that society faces, and which are mainly caused by the current economic and financial model. The course presents a new approach based on the alignment between social, ethical, and environmental aspirations on the one hand, and on the management of economic and financial activity on the other.

This course explores the city of Barcelona from a historic, artistic, literary, and cinematographic perspective. Topics include: the roman city; the Gothic Quarter; a bohemian and modernist city; a global city-- Universal Exposition, Olympic Games, and Universal Forum of Cultures.

This course explores the main international and European legal mechanisms in place to protect from different forms of discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual orientation, disability, or race. It focuses on the principles of equality and non-discrimination,  and introduces the subject through the evolution of women’s rights and its international recognition. Activities include discussion of case studies and in-class debates.
