Course Description
This course studies the different strands of economic thought and how they explain the structure and evolution of societies. Topics include the reach of political economy; impact of electoral laws on political parties; interactions of legislative, executive, bureaucracy, and courts; social choice; public finance and public economics; politics and macro-economics; democracy and capitalism; international relations and conflict; and economic methods in political economy. The final part of the course explores current world issues in political economy.

Course Description

This course examines the principles and fundamental theories of Thai dance. It also provides an introduction to the basic elements of Thai music, stylistic characters, and brief overview of the history of Thai music. Practical experience complements lectures to provide a better understanding of Thai dance and music culture and an appreciation of Thai cultural identities. The course culminates in a group public performance.

Course Description
The course studies the socioeconomic impact of disasters on the well-being of people and communities. The focus of the course is on major disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, landslides, fire, terrorism, and nuclear accidents. It provides an analysis of the hazards, risks, and roles and responsibilities of state and private agencies in responding to disasters and recovery work. Topics include early protection by social welfare measures such as social insurance; disaster education and financial planning; emergency center management with a focus on welfare provision; and rehabilitation programs for disaster victims and their communities after an incident.

The course provides a study of the basic science of investing with a focus on how to analyze the economy and securities. Course Description
The course expands vocabulary, grammar, frequently used expressions, and basic Spanish structures necessary for developing an elementary level of communicative Spanish proficiency. Course Description
This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to examine the concepts of expansion, empire, and frontier in British and American history and literature. The course focuses on how these concepts are constructed through imperial discourses and the impact on the cultural life of both Britain and America in the nineteenth century. It also covers the social, cultural, and political conditions that contributed to the rise and fall of the British Empire and the emergence of America as a superpower. Topics include early explorations and voyages, conflicts in the new world, slavery, American Independence, war, the British in India, the exploration and conquest of Africa, British colonialism in Southeast Asia, the American frontier, Victorian attitudes towards Empire, Ghandi and the Indian Independence, and African Independence. Texts: Joseph Conrad, HEART OF DARKNESS; John Smith, THE GENERALL HISTORIE; Rudyard Kipling, THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING. Assessment: attendance and participation (20%), term papers (35%), final exam (45%).

This course introduces methods to analyze international and internal migration. The focus in on economic migrants, including trafficked people, and refugees. The causes of people movement and its consequences for the migrants and refugees and the destination countries are drawn up. Course Description
This course considers Britain's stance and role in the process of European integration, with particular attention on the question of why Britain has been reluctant to embrace European integration. Focus is on contemporary problems and prospects of closer British ties to the European Union and related bodies. Topics include the trajectory of European integration and Britain's role therein, major strains of Britain's foreign policy since the middle of the 20th century, the inter-relations and inter-dependencies between Britain and European politics, and different aspects of contemporary international politics. Assessment: midterm exam (40%), final exam (40%), attendance and participation (10%), response paper (10%).
