This course takes a formal approach to analyzing the way firms make production and sales decisions and interact strategically with each other in the marketplace. It begins with a study of optimal pricing policies, including versioning, bundling, and related market segmentation strategies. In the second part of the course, we analyze strategies for firm dominance, especially through the deterrence of potential competition. The list of such strategies includes capacity expansion, product proliferation, and exclusive dealing contracts. In the third part of the course we apply game theory to the study of oligopoly interaction, focusing on pricing and output strategies in a dynamic setting. In the final part or the course we introduce some of the most useful cutting-edge analytical frameworks in the age of fast technological changes, including those of multi-sided platforms, standard wars and business ecosystems. This course has a strong entrepreneurial component; we study all the essential issues in the literature of Industrial Organization from the viewpoint of business decision-makers.

This course strengthens Chinese listening, writing, and speaking skills and focuses on strengthening oral and expressive skills The course is designed for exchange students and visiting students only. The Chinese course is offered for those students who are taking Chinese course Intermediate I, II & III from NTU Center for International Education. The course aims to enable students to learn Chinese with joy through games and group activities. This is the Physics Lab which follows the curriculum for the General Physics Course for first year students. There are nine labs total including Hysteresis Curve, Fundamental Optics, Slide-Wire potentiometer, Hall effect, Basic Circuit of RC/RL, Simple Michelson Interferometer, Properties of Microwave, Spectral Analysis, and Basic Circuit of RLC. You will be required to complete two lab reports and one presentation.

This course focuses on the establishment of the post-war democratic system, explaining the type of authoritarian rule in Taiwan, the struggles of democratic movements in various periods, the characteristics and achievements of Taiwan's democratic transition, how to deal with the legacy of authoritarianism, and the current challenges and solutions for Taiwan's democratic system. The course is divided into six themes and each unit takes approximately two to three weeks: (1) Political conflict in Taiwan in the early postwar period;(2) White terror and Taiwanese society; (3) The characteristics of the party-state authoritarian system; (4) Early democratic movements and goals; (5) Taiwan's democratic transition, and (6) Democratic Defense, Transitional Justice and Taiwan.

For the understanding of Southeast Asian cultures and peoples, this course explains the general historical change from the 19th century to the 1990s by focusing on cultural change. In this area, what is formed is not a gathering of each history of present nations, but total perspectives based on several important historical waves. Topics: early colonization, the period of mercantilism: before 18th century; Imperialism-19th century; birth of Nationalism - first half of the 20th century; decolonization - 1940s and 50s; The Cold War - 1960s); New Change Period - 1970s and 80s. Generally Southeast Asian history in the Modern times was recorded by documents written in several languages. For easier understanding this course focuses on material cultural elements or pictorial data in each period.
COURSE DETAIL
This course is based on the "General Zoology Experiment Guide" written by the department as the textbook. The book is co-authored by many professors of the department. There are more than 30 experiments planned in total, covering important fields of life science, such as cells and tissues; the structure and function of organs and various systems; the heredity of life; the classification of animals; the origin and evolution of life, the behavior of animals and ecology, etc. Based on this book, this course selects 1~2 experiments from each field. First, the basic theory and experimental content on which each experiment is based is introduced through lectures and pictures. Students then complete the experiment and discuss it. After class time, students serve as teaching assistant trainees in the general biology laboratory animal (or general zoology laboratory course) class offered by the department for university students for one semester, and apply what they have learned to practical work.
COURSE DETAIL
This course is a continuation of Elementary Taiwanese Hakka I. It reinforces both Hakka literacy and spoken conversation. Conversation topics include: interpreting literature and documents; conducting research; critical appreciation and inquiry; communication and writing skills and creativity; language analysis abilities; analytical understanding and creative thinking in the humanistic study of Chinese language, literature and culture; global vision; and multicultural understanding. Text: BEGINNING COLLEGE HAKKA LANGUAGE. Assessment: quizzes, participation, attendance, midterm exam, and final presentation.
COURSE DETAIL
The course provides a study of the history, theory, tradition, and style of the Guqin, a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument. Repertoire exercises will also be taught based on individual student ability and experience level. The course explores the beauty of Guqin music and establishes its musical aesthetic foundation in a cultural and historical context.
