This course provides a close analysis of verbs of motion, verbal aspect, word order, and lexical groups. Emphasis is placed on the verbal activation of all material. It also provides an introduction to Russian linguistics. Topics of study include nominal morphological categories, word formation, syntactical structures, and stylistics. It includes reading texts from a variety of media (including video/internet sources) and/or political science with the aim of seeing practical applications of grammatical constructs. Students participate actively in class discussions, dialogues, and debates, as well as prepare oral presentations and write short compositions. There are regular written quizzes and one written final.

This course focuses on the acquisition and activation of new vocabulary. It covers a series of frequent conversational themes and situations from daily life, including personal traits, art and culture, and current events. Students participate actively in class discussions, dialogues, and debates, as well as prepare oral presentations and write short compositions. The course develops students’ acquisition of phonetic accuracy through oral presentations, practical training, and individualized work. Students cover a survey of important literary works as part of this course with regular quizzes and one final exam.

This intermediate A2 level Russian language course focuses on the four skills of listening comprehension, spoken expression, reading comprehension, and written expression to enable students to use documentation in Russian and to practice the language in a non-specialized context. The listening comprehension section focuses on understanding sentences in simple, everyday situations and following short conversations on familiar topics. The spoken expression section allows for conversation in practical, simple, and predictable situations; holding a simple conversation; and summarizing a text. The reading comprehension section practices reading texts fluently and understanding the familiar elements. Finally, the written expression section provides an opportunity to compose a story. Some sessions may be devoted to Russian culture and civilization. In addition to the textbook, the course utilizes extracts from newspapers and other news media. The grammar and vocabulary learned enable students to form a descriptive and explanatory level of speech.

Russian B1 plus is suitable for people with intermediate knowledge of Russian (B1minus level). Registering for this course is only possible when you have passed the previous course or had an intake with the teacher.
