The course focuses on the performance of structural systems in relation to seismic forces. It encompasses basic concepts of seismology, seismic threat, and characterization of earthquakes and analyzes the seismic response of structures on elastic and inelastic performance. This course presents the scopes and limitations of the seismic design codes as well as the foundations for performance-based seismic analysis and design.

The course discusses the problems, methods, and results of sociolinguistics, in particular the social aspects that influence linguistic change. It explores the incidence of social and cultural factors in the acquisition and use of language, as well as on the sociolinguistic status of Indigenous languages and the linguistic planning of the different Latin American countries. 

The course provides a study of the process of political transition and consolidation of Spanish democracy. It discusses the institutional design of the Spanish political system as well as the political actors and the political culture in Spain, as compared to other advanced democracies. Students are expected to have previous coursework in political science.

This course analyzes consumer society including how and why subjects and social groups adopt certain behaviors and consumer practices in the context of a social structure and a certain model of production and marketing of goods.

This course offers a study of the basics of marketing including its multiple dimensions, as well as consumer knowledge, market research, and strategic decision-making.. 

This course provides a study of the theoretical and methodological approaches used in teaching and learning comprehension, oral, and written expression skills necessary for the acquisition of Spanish as a second language. It covers linguistic and non-linguistic elements of oral and written communication; the relationship between speaking and writing; conversational, standard, formal and specialized styles.
