This course provides an introductory study of psychological processes that provide a foundation for various subfields in psychology. It examines topics such as: the debate between innate versus acquired, the phylogeny and ontogeny of psychological processes; processes of perception, attention, imagination, memory, thought, motivation, autoregulation, empathy; abnormal functions in psychological processes including attention deficit, amnesia, and intellectual disabilities.

This course provides the essential keys for understanding urban phenomena, including relevant spatial elements in the city and methodologies for understanding of the distinguishing features of cities. It examines the essential features of urban spaces, both from an evolutionary point of view, and in relation to their present configuration. The course also looks at some of the main challenges related to urban spaces, including spatial planning, socio-economic tensions, migration, and urban environment. Madrid's urban reality and its metropolitan area in particular, is examined as a case study.

This course discusses the study of material religion, the research of religious objects and images and the materialism of beliefs. It is divided into three sections: introduction to the studies of religiosity; the study of material religion; religiosity, materialism, and imagery in Latin America.

This course reflects on human-plant relationships and interactions across various societies through space and time. Special emphasis is placed on the understanding and use of plants and their landscape by different cultural groups. The class covers techniques and methods for reconstructing this kind of knowledge ethnographically, archaeologically and paleoecologically. Current efforts to preserve and reinterpret this biocultural legacy are also debated.

This course studies the principle elements of probability theory. Topics covered include: introduction to probability theory, randomized experiments; probability spaces, conditional probability and independence of events; dimensional random variables (distribution function, discrete and continuous variables, transformations, moments, characteristic function and moment generating function, notable distributions); multidimensional random variables (marginal and conditional distributions, independence, transformations, moments, characteristic function, correlation coefficient, notable distributions); Stochastic convergence (convergence of random variables, relationships and properties, laws of large numbers, central limit theorems). This course examines the link between journalism and social change since the emergence of the mass media, with a special focus on the 19th century to present . It explores the influence of journalism on historical evolution, both in the sense of change or in maintaining the established order. This course discusses the role of the media and information during WWI, WWII, the Cold War, processes of de-colonization, and the post-Cold War world.
