Students will acquire basic grammar and vocabulary needed for everyday life and attending university classes in Japan, learn the skills “reading” and “writing”.
Eligibility: A2.1 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N4 in the JLPT).

Review the expressions/sentence structures learned at the basic level (A1-A2.1); learn new expressions/sentence structures, and when, where, and how to use them, to achieve the below goals:
・ Comprehend texts on every day, specific, familiar topics.
・ Writing concise texts about events, past activities, and personal experiences using simple conjunctions to connect ideas (soshite, shikashi, nazenara, etc.).

The course is designed for students who are able to write around 300 basic kanji characeters to study around 100 kanji characters and to practice reading and writing sentences using these characters.

This course is for students who will learn Japanese as a mother tongue, first language, or heritage language. The aim of this course is to provide a sound basis for studying Japanese at JLP for those students without formal training in Japanese language. The class meets for six hours per week. Students will be exposed to various spoken and written Japanese, and will acquire skills to study Japanese in an academic context.
COURSE DETAIL
This course introduces low intermediate level sentence patterns and teaches how to use them in practice. The course covers intermediate level grammar, expressions and aims to acquire a balanced mastery of the four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Upon completion, students are expected to acquire skills to read short sentences about Japanese culture, society and daily life, as well as understand and summarize the main points of sentences.
COURSE DETAIL
An integrated introduction to spoken and written Japanese for those with little or no previous knowledge of the language. The course includes kana writing (Japanese phonetic writing), and an introduction to some kanji (Japanese Characters), approximately 90-100. Teaching is aimed at enabling students to speak, read and write Modern Japanese at a post beginner level, equivalent to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level A1.
