Through an integrated curriculum of vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, writing, and reading, this course enables students to: 

1) Communicate in Korean at an advanced level in formal discourse;  

2) Understand newspaper and newspaper articles on politics, economics, society, and culture and provide one’s opinion on given topics; and,  

3) Understand Korean culture through idioms, proverbs, etc.  

This course is to learn Korean language through various projects and games. Data compiled from the weekly quests will be analyzed to create algorithms using generative AI to train our NPCs for our Survival Korean MMORPG game. This is also part of the "Generative AI in Education APRU Project" supported by Microsoft. It focuses on “real life challenges” and acculturation while empowering language learners at the most elementary level using gaming and digital technologies/platforms like CHATGPT and COPILOT to generate interest.

This course teaches basic Korean language skills, including pronunciation, speaking, and writing. Topics include greeting, self-introduction, calling, dating, seasons and weather, and other topics related to daily conservations. It also covers commonly used grammatical forms such as add-ons, endings, connecting endings, time-based endings, and various other formats and basic sentence patterns.

This course is designed for students with no or very limited knowledge of Korean. It helps students acquire a basic level of communicative competence in Korean. By the end of this course, students will be able to write and read the Korean alphabet; understand basic grammatical elements, such as particles, endings, and present/past/future tense; greet each other and introduce themselves; carry out conversations about topics relating to everyday life; and understand simple texts and write about familiar things and experiences.

This course introduces basic spoken and written Korean, oral practice for various everyday situations, grammatical structures, and vocabulary and practical expressions. Students do not need any prior knowledge of Korean. At the end of the course students are able to conduct conversation on topics such as everyday greetings, asking and giving information, and number expressions. This Korean language course improves speaking and writing communication skills by practicing common conversations in daily life and practicing writing according to the words and sentences of different topics in each lesson and pronunciation rules. In addition, the class uses Korean songs, serials, and variety shows, to provide familiarity with the colloquial idioms other than textbooks. Various topics on Korean culture and Korean customs are regularly introduced such as interrogative sentences, familial and social norms, food, seasons, transportation, and weather. The prerequisite required for this course is Korean I (1).

This course provides intermediate Korean language skills associated daily and academic activities and practice for students to gain proficiency in all skill areas including Korean reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students are expected to understand written and spoken language, formal and informal expressions, and be able to use them appropriately according to the situation.

This course is designed for high-intermediate students who wish to strengthen their writing skills in Korean. It aims to help students achieve advance levels of writing skills. At the end of the course, students will be able to create their own templates, distinguish between spoken and written Korean, and distinguish between informal and formal style.

Prerequisite: Intermediate Korean (2) or the equivalent.

2) To have basic conversations in Korean including transportation, shopping, food, weather, weekly activities etc.; and,

3) To use honorific and formal style endings according to the appropriate social situation.
