The course addresses intermediate-level reading and comprehension of Korean language surrounding the following topics: festivals, pop culture, health, leisure, transportation, occupation, and interpersonal relations.

This course examines central topics on Korean language through cultural perspectives. First, the course provides an introduction to Korean history and culture for the intensive comprehension of Korean. The course then covers main topics and central issues of Korean, such as Han-geul (Korean alphabet), invention, Korean language movement (Han-geul and language purism in Korea), Romanization of Korean, aspects of Korean honorific system, and linguistic ties between Korea, Japan, and China, and finally advertisements and slang in Korean. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the Korean culture, especially Confucianism which has been related to Korean linguistic phenomena. Knowledge of Korean language is recommended. Assessment: Class attendance and participation (20%), quizzes (20%), midterm essay (30%), final essay (30%).

Students learn intermediate-level vocabulary and expressions in everyday materials and familiar socio-cultural topics, training them to organize their thoughts and improve their speaking skills. 2) To pronounce vowels, consonants clearly and understand Korean pronunciation system through fundamental change of sounds;

This course aims to allow exchange/foreign students studying at Yonsei University to learn about Korean food and culture by exploring, experiencing, and enjoying them either firsthand or indirectly through related lectures, discussions, and research in addition to personal food experiences when it comes to Korean cuisine. It takes enrolled students on an enjoyable but also serious journey encompassing the history of Korea from the past to the present related to its food and culture and cover a wide variety of contents to offer a comprehensive understanding of K-food and K-culture. Students are encouraged to conduct original individual research and actively participate in class discussions to share their knowledge and experience with their peers.

This course provides students with the following intermediate Korean language skills: ability to ask questions; answer questions and engage in discussion; ability to comprehend mass media; ability to conduct intermediate level everyday conversation; and ability to write an intermediate level document. Students learn a variety of useful expressions commonly used in questioning, answering, and discussing in a class, and practice how to use those expressions. They also study lots of useful expressions frequently used in mass media such as radio, TV and movies, and practice how to comprehend those mass media.
