This course is designed to deepen and refine the oral and written communicative competence of students at the B2.2 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Specific objectives of the course include developing the capacity to present ideas in a clear, detailed, and complex manner; to write clear, complex, structured text on any subject; participate in daily conversations on general topics, using formal and informal styles. Grammatical forms covered include: the imperative; non-personal forms; the future and perfect future; the conditional and the perfect conditional; the subjunctive; conditional sentences; conditional compound; referenced speech; introductory verbs.

This course examines characteristics of teatro breve and its importance within the theatrical spectacle, during the Spanish Golden Age. If offers an overview of the political, social, and cultural situation in Spain and the beginnings of theater. It discusses prominent authors of teatro breve including: Lope de Rueda; Miguel de Cervantes; Hurtado de Mendoza; Quevedo; Quiñones de Benavente; Solís; Calderón de la Barca.

This class concentrates on the Latin American modern novel. The course analyzes and studies the relations between society and the works of Borges, Garcia Marquez, Vargas Llosa, and Isabel Allende.

Students read complex texts from various sources and topics, which built a basis for reading comprehension and oral discussions. Students express their points of view and defend them in front of others. They analyze the strategies and instruments needed to debate, and they create an oral presentation on a topic they are studying.
