Course Description
This is the fourth level for the subject at Lund University. The student continues to develop his/her ability to understand Swedish and produce oral and written Swedish in various contexts. The features particular to Swedish grammar and the Swedish phonetic system are discussed parallel to proficiency training. The course also provides the student with increased knowledge of Swedish life and institutions. The student builds up an active vocabulary through reading texts, and listening comprehension is developed through the use of recorded radio and TV programmes. Texts are studied with the aim of building up a general vocabulary of words and phrases. The ability to discuss, hold a conversation and give short speeches is developed, and pronunciation and grammar are practised using, among other methods, computer-based language programmes. Written language proficiency is developed through the execution of various written assignments.

Course Description
Upon completing the course, students with foreign education backgrounds and native languages other than the Scandinavian languages and Finnish have acquired basic skills in the Swedish language and some knowledge about Swedish society. The course includes systematic reading and practicing of basic grammatical structures and principles of pronunciation, reading of textbooks as well as easy authentic texts, exercises in pronunciation, exercises in listening comprehension, and short exercises in oral and written communication. On completion of the reading and writing portion of the course, students: demonstrate knowledge of, and fairly safely and correctly are able to apply, basic grammatical structures in Swedish; are able to acquire understanding of Swedish fiction and are able to follow the fundamental features of complex texts that treat current phenomena and that express attitudes and opinions; are able to write clear and detailed text within their fields of interest, and write a thesis or report that communicates information or gives causes for or against a certain position. On completion of the listening comprehension and oral proficiency portion of the course, students are able to: comment clearly and in detail pertaining a large number of different subjects, and discuss advantages and disadvantages of different solutions; take active part in discussions about well-known subjects and explain and defend their opinions; show understanding of the greater part of news and current programs on radio and TV, and be able to acquire understanding of longer productions, e.g. lectures, where the subject is fairly known.

Course Description

After completing the reading and writing portion of the course, students are be able to demonstrate knowledge of the basics of Swedish language structure, have a basic vocabulary of everyday words and phrases, are able to read and comprehend simple texts, and are able to write short, simple texts about themselves and their everyday life. After completing the listening and oral portion of the course, students are able to: talk about themselves and their everyday life, verbally communicate at a very simple level in Swedish, passably understand when they are addressed concerning topics that concern themselves and their daily life, generally understand short conversations about familiar topics.

Course Description

It prepares students to engage in general conversations, daily life situations, the discussion of current events, and the presentation of rules governing academic studies and life in Sweden. It also teaches language structure and basic grammatical rules. Course Description

The course intends to extend Swedish vocabulary and the ability to adapt the use of language to different communicative situations while developing the ability to engage in debates and discussions in Swedish. Written proficiency and the knowledge of stylistic variation in Swedish are practiced through the study of factual texts and text analysis. Active vocabulary is enlarged through reading modern Swedish literature. The pronunciation and grammar exercises are assisted by computer-based language programs in a language laboratory.

Course Description

This course gives an outline of the historical development of Swedish society from prehistoric times to the present. Important periods and developments, such as the Middle Ages, the Great Power Period, and the nineteenth century mass emigration are highlighted. Special emphasis is put on the twentieth century, including Sweden's security policy and the emergence of the welfare state. Specifically, Swedish political history is discussed in an international context (Scandinavian, European, American and Global). This course is a module within the SWEDISH CULTURE course.

Course Description

This is the first elementary level Swedish language course at Lund University. This course studies Swedish language, covering the development of speaking, reading, and writing skills.
