University College Cork is ranked as one of the top green universities of the world, and its researchers are leading in the fields of sustainability and environmental protection. The campus features stunning Gothic limestone buildings and the quad is home to the Ogham Stones, which hold the earliest written source of the Irish language. Sports facilities include swimming pools, climbing walls, and indoor/outdoor running tracks with a stadium-quality viewing gallery. The campus is in walking distance of the town center of Cork, the largest and southernmost county of Ireland. The city began as an island that now spans both banks of the River Lee with watery channels in all directions and countless bridges to cross. Those tributaries get new meaning when you see the university’s canoe and rowing clubs glide through the waters.
