Dates and Eligibility
Program requirements are about helping you find your best match in a new academic setting abroad, and eligibility helps you narrow your choices to find the best program where you can succeed and thrive.
To be eligible to apply to UCEAP, you must meet the following basic criteria:
- You are enrolled as a degree-seeking student with a UC campus, are on filing fee status, or are on an approved educational leave or other approved leave status.
- You are in good academic standing as defined by your UC campus.
If you meet the basic criteria—good news! You meet the qualifications to apply to UCEAP. If you are unsure about your eligibility, contact the UCEAP study abroad advisor for the program.
Note for transfer students: Incoming transfer students are eligible to apply for UCEAP programs but must check with their campus study abroad office to determine how soon they can participate in study abroad.
Program Requirements
You must maintain your eligibility for the program, including the required minimum GPA, from the time of application through the end of your program. If you have concerns about your eligibility, contact the UCEAP study abroad advisor for the program.
The following are the minimum requirements to participate in this program. Some requirements are set by the host country, the host university, or third-party providers. Most requirements must be met at the time you apply. However, you have until departure to meet the class level and most language requirements.
Note for transfer students: Unless specifically noted, your transfer GPA can be considered at the time of application if you don’t yet have a UC GPA. If you have less than 3 quarters/2 semesters at UC, your transfer and UC GPAs can be combined.
A high intermediate/advanced level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required by Tec to take classes taught in Spanish.
Review the program’s Academic page on the UCEAP website. Confirm this program offers courses you’re seeking to take, and that the courses are taught in a language you can understand.
Tec Campus Ciudad de Mexico might not offer courses in the subject you’re looking for. For example, the Mexico City location does not offer courses in Spanish Literature and Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Civil Engineering and Electronics Engineering).
Outside of Business and Humanities, Tec Campus Ciudad de Mexico offers very limited coursework in English.
Make a tentative course plan! While the university does offer courses in English, not all courses are taught in English. If you do not have Spanish language skills equivalent to the completion of the high intermediate/advanced level of the language, as determined by the host university’s language placement exam, you may only be able to select from the courses offered in English.
Check to make sure the courses offered in English meet your needs. Also, make sure you have plenty of back-up course options in case the courses you’re most interested in are unavailable.
