Course Description
This elective seminar provides an introduction to three of the main theoretical-conceptual traditions of urban sociology -- Chicago School, NeoStructuralist Criticism and Urban Social Movements -- in order to recognize current urban phenomena and challenges. Special attention is placed on discussing and investigating racial tensions in the city, including the relationship of racial tension and migration (both national and international), the socio-territorial disposition of different ethnic groups, and the socio-spatial barriers of the city.

Course Description
This course examines a representative corpus of poetry by Chilean women, from the 19th century to the present day, including Mapuche poets. Topics covered include: gender and poetry; poetics of women writers in the early twentieth century(melodrama, madness, eroticism); poetics of hatching: eroticism, transgression and citizenship; heterogeneous poetics: sexuality, wandering, indigenous voices.

Course Description
This course offers a panoramic view of Chile's political, cultural and social trajectory in the nineteenth century, with special emphasis on the Independence, liberal republicanism, the figure of Portals and order, the University of Chile, the struggle of parliamentarianism against presidential authoritarianism, civil wars against Chile's neighbors, and the late-century changes leading to the 1891 conflict. There is particular attention given to the various historiographic interpretations of the nineteenth century. Note: Similar course is offered at a different faculty/campus location.
