Course Description
This course requires the reading and interpretation of cultural essays related to the theme of national identity and continental Latin American identity. In addition to studying the evolution and forms of this kind of literary genre, the course demands critical analysis of the different authors and their works including José Martí, Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Alfonso Reyes, Octavio Paz y Luis Oyarzún. Students analyze the problems and cultural models suggested by these essayists and interpret the construction of a traditional Latin American culture.

Course Description
This course provides a study the historical dynamics of the indigenous communities of Chile that existed during the time of the Spanish conquest. It examines the effects of conquest and the resulting sociocultural and economic processes that took place during the 16th century. The course examines the cultural developments both prior to and as a result of the conquest, taking into account the early development of the Chilean colonial society and the transformations of indigenous societies that shared its space.

This course explores the content, scope, and pending challenges of the struggle of indigenous women in Latin America, based on critical analysis of the notions of gender and ethnicity. It reflects on the scope of different perspectives in multi-ethnic and racialized contexts, as well discussions about dissent and sexual difference in multi-ethnic contexts. Course Description
This course applies theoretical tools, scientific evidence and policy examples to contextualize and problematize, from a gender and interdisciplinary perspective, social gender relations in a context of inequalities, in an effort to understand the manifestation of sexist violence and ways to overcome it. The first course module provides basic concepts of gender theories, a historical analysis of the movements of international women and in Chile from a feminist economic perspective. The second module analyzes the various expressions of gender violence.
