Through lectures, readings, essays, projects and class discussions, this course analyzes ethnographic research and critical debates accumulated by anthropologists throughout different countries of the region. It examines a set of dimensions and processes around which the construction of the nation in Latin America has been articulated. The course addresses the classical conceptual axes that founded national projects in Latin America from an anthropological perspective.

In this course, students analyze classical and contemporary anthropological perspectives on kinship and gender. Students explore ethnographies that consider variations of what is understood by "kinship" and "gender" and their intertwining relationship in different cultural contexts.

This course provides a study of fundamental texts of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries on the theory of the novel. It examines writing styles of different authors and delves into diction, detail, and themes presented in their works. The readings include theory texts by Ortega y Gasset, Barthes, Todorov, Genette, Bakhtin, and Goldmann, among others.

This course provides an analysis and contextualization of periods, movements, authors and representative works of Chilean, Latin American, and Spanish literature from the end of modernism to the 1960s. It identifies the main themes and aesthetics of this extensive period, placing specific focus on narrative and poetry, the relationships between the two and with their respective cultural, social and political fields.

This course analyzes family dynamics in occidental societies with particular emphasis on Latin America and Chile. Students explore families as institutions, considering the traditional notion of family and its cultural changes due to immigration, inequality, and technological advances, among other aspects. Students examine the relation between gender roles/familial structure and the political atmosphere that helps to shape this structure.

This class reviews the relevance of play for human beings through distinct theoretical perspectives and discipline. It examines practical applications of play and its role in the development, learning and mental health are examined.

This course provides a critical analysis of the works of prominent Andean poets significant to the cultural history of Latin America: Pedro Prado, Pablo Neruda, Pablo De Rokha, Gonzalo Rojas, Stella Díaz-Varín, César Vallejo, Vicente Huidobro, Gabriela Mistral, Blanca Varela, Soledad Fariña, Juan Eduardo Eielson, Jaime Sáenz. It examines the symbolism, content, and structure of their works, and examines the personal and historical contexts in which they were written. It also compares and contrasts the authors, paying special attention to the poets' identities with regards to gender, class, and ethnicity.

This course provides a study of relational dynamics and their role in the promotion or deterioration of well-being and mental health through the analysis of their healthy and unhealthy characteristics. It considers the challenges as well as the social skills associated with relational success: issues of jealousy, infidelity, break-ups, and psycho-educational programs for couples, among others.

This course provides a critical analysis of the main authors and contemporary theories of ethics and the manner in which these theories and moral principles can be applied to complex situations tied to the world of business and the public sphere.
