This course aims at improving the ability of academic writing in Chinese for international students. This course consists of three parts: 1. Learning the features, format, writing style of Chinese academic papers, as well as the features of related language expressions, including vocabulary, sentence structure, paragraphs etc. 2. From the aspect of language expression, you will be provided with the writing methods which are frequently used in academic writings, including explanations, descriptions, making statements and examples, comparisons and arguments. 3. You will be provided with exercises related to academic writing, including the topics and subtitles, abstract and key words, introduction, literature review, arguments (eg. quotes), conclusion, reference, appendix as well as concluding remarks. This course will connect writing techniques with your language ability training. By reading examples and making analysis of common mistakes, students will get some ideas about the features of Chinese academic papers, will understand the differences of academic and non-academic Chinese, and will study the general guideline for writing Chinese academic papers. As students understand certain necessary procedures and skills of academic writing, they will be capable of writing academic papers independently.

Structure and function of nervous system is a course designed to introduce the structure and function of the human nervous system. Learning formats include lecture, laboratory observation, and group discussion. The course begins with the structure of spinal cord, spinal, nerves, brain, and cranial nerves. Role of nervous system in sensation, movement, and homeostasis, higher mental functions, autonomic system, and special senses are introduced and developed as the course proceeds. Common diseases of the nervous system will be discussed in group. A neuroanatomy laboratory will observe the structures in gross brain specimens and models. 

This course is an introduction to algorithms. Lectures are about the fundamental skills of algorithm design and analysis. The course will teach the students how to analysis the asymptotic performance of algorithms with the growth of functions, as well as the probabilistic analysis and amortized analysis. Basic algorithm design skills such as divide-and-conquer, dynamic program functions and greedy algorithm are also included. Some specific topics, such as sorting algorithms, string matching algorithms, NP completeness theory and approximation algorithms will also be discussed.

This course introduces the major theories and research methods of interpersonal communication and explains how they can be applied to effective communication in a variety of specific interpersonal relationships. Topics discussed include privacy and communication, nonverbal interpersonal communication, computer-mediated interpersonal communication, and social networks. The program is designed to incorporate cutting-edge academic and industry developments and to foster an international perspective.

Chinese Language (Foreign Language) is an undergraduate major offered by Fudan University for international students from all over the world. "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature" is a compulsory course of this major, which is divided into two parts: "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature (first)" and "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature (second)". It is a major backbone course for international students to study for one academic year after entering the third grade.

As a professional literature course for international undergraduates, the design and implementation concept of this course not only strives to show the overall style of modern and contemporary Chinese literature with time as the history and works of writers of different styles as the background, but also hopes to take emotion, humanity and values as the main line. To present Chinese society and the Chinese people in the literary world in a broader interdisciplinary perspective of literature, culturology and sociology, and to interpret China through literature.

"Modern Chinese Literature" and "Contemporary Chinese Literature" are one of the most popular courses among students from the Chinese Department of Chinese Language and Literature. However, because these two courses are both 4-hour professional compulsory courses, their training objectives, teaching content and The amount of works read far exceeds the needs of students from other departments. This course "Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature" is a public elective course tailored for students from other departments to learn and understand modern and contemporary Chinese literature. This course condenses the essence of "Chinese Modern Literature" and "Chinese Contemporary Literature". By telling the interaction between the important works of Chinese writers from 1917 to the present and Chinese society, it reproduces the "emotional structure" and "collective unconsciousness" of Chinese literature on modern China. "The expression can comprehensively enhance students' artistic realm and humanistic feelings.

This course studies frequent vocabulary, grammar and general cultural knowledge of classical Chinese; basic competency in reading classical Chinese literatures; and to further improve their ability in the application of written modern Chinese. Teaching content includes mainly classical Chinese analects with the special learning of frequent vocabulary, sentence patterns, and general cultural knowledge on classical Chinese as supplements. 

With systematic teaching, we will help the students to learn the basic changing clues and major issues of 1200 years between Sui Dynasty in ancient China and Opium War, as well as the necessary historical knowledge of politic, economic, institution, culture, nationality and other aspects of this period; moreover to help the students to learn the basic method of historical research, the important academic works, famous experts and the latest academic trends; to train their professional awareness, and to lay the foundation for further study of the various dynastic histories and history of particular subjects, as well as the research and practice of the fields. By a variety of interactive forms of lecture, assignment and discussion, to develop students` humanistic spirits and inventiveness.
