Course Description

An Introduction to Philosophy This course aims at being an introduction to the way of philosophical thinking through a close reading of Plato’s Republic and other classical philosophical texts. The course will introduce the students to the major topics, problems, concepts and approaches of philosophy by following the lead of Socrates to examine the ways of life. In addition, the course will provide a preliminary training of reading, arguing and writing in the philosophical way. Course Description

Group social work is an important method among the three major practice methods of social work. This course mainly introduces the basic principles of group social work, the theoretical basis of group work, group types, elements of group systems, group dynamics, group social work process and the evaluation of group social work. The purpose of setting up this course is to enable students to systematically understand the meaning, origin and development of group social work as well as the theoretical basis of group social work practice, to have an in-depth understanding of the structure, process and development of the group, and to master the principles and characteristics of each different implementation stage. On the basis of comprehensively using various methods and techniques of group social work to organize the implementation of group social work. The course will explain practical theories while supplementing them with relevant cases. While paying attention to the analysis of practical theories, it will also focus on teaching group work skills and methods to prepare students for group social work.

Course Description

Through the analysis of specific cases of communication in different situations and the systematic study of relevant theories, students can understand the basic theories of communication and master the methods to improve communication efficiency in different situations. Through a series of case discussions, students are trained to analyze and solve interpersonal conflict, team management, negotiation, cross-cultural adaptation and other related problems in practice by combining relevant theories. Course Description
“History of Daoism” was regarded as the most important motif in the Daoist studies in the last several decades in China. However, the historical narrative of sects and Daoist masters in different periods and dynasties in the history of Daoism should not be regarded as the total picture of Daoism, the only domestic belief tradition in China. This course starts with a historical review of the history of Daoism. Lecture topics: pre-Confucianism of Daoism, native beliefs before the Eastern Han Dynasty; origin of the Daoist order; construction of theological system.

Course Description

On the basis of expanding the scope of students' knowledge of modern biology, strengthen the cultivation of students' practical ability through various experimental operations with points and aspects. General biology experiment is a basic and comprehensive general education experiment course of life science for non-life science majors in the whole school. The course basically involves the major fields of current life science research. Taking into account the actual situation of students in different disciplines and majors, the experimental content is set up into four major sections, namely the form and structure of various types of organisms, tissues and cells, physiology and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, etc. At the same time, it tries to start from real life, and gradually in-depth into the basic principles and basic methods of life science And the latest progress of life science. An introduction of chinese buddhist history, including important events , main figures and schools.

This course includes:

 (1) A comprehensive overview of the history of Chinese Buddhism based on the stages of its spread and development in early China;

 (2) Introduction to the translation, annotation, and dissemination of Buddhist classics; 

(3) Selective explanation of the main ideological thoughts, religious sects, and their theoretical characteristics in Chinese Buddhism through reading original materials; 

(4) Exploring the exchange and integration between Buddhism and traditional Chinese culture in the context of Chinese social and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, based on classroom teachings, selected readings will be organized, followed by open discussions.

This class will introduce Mindfulness Intervention for Emotional Distress. It includes concept of Mindfulness and evidence for Mindfulness intervention. It will teach the common practice of mindfulness, including body scan, mindfulness siting, body stretch, mindful walking, mindful eating. Students need complete 15 minutes mindfulness practice daily, and other relative tasks. The object of this class: through study and practice, students will learn mindfulness practice, the strategies of reduction of emotional distress.
