This course is open to first-year students of the International Baccalaureate Program in the Department of Chinese, hoping to guide foreign students in the class to understand Chinese systematically. The class discusses Chinese phonetics, phonology, characters, vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics, speech, rhetoric and other aspects. In addition to the teacher's description of various language phenomena, students also practice analyzing language phenomena.

This intermediate Putonghua course is designed to familiarize students with newly acquired vocabulary and grammar points through language tasks and activities and contextualized exercises in real life settings. Text: KUNG FU II: INTERMEDIATE CHINESE. Assessment: participation (20%), quizzes (10%), listening comprehension 1 & 2 (20%), oral midterm exam (25%), oral final exam (25%).

Offering this elective allows students to gain a deeper understanding of current social media communications and emerging technologies. From the perspective of disciplinary development, this course is conducive to cultivating students' ability to integrate theory with practice, especially how to combine the knowledge of communication with the changes in media technology, which is in line with the characteristics of applied communication.

The course provides an introduction to traditional wooden architecture in Taiwan. Topics include basic structure terms; source, type, development, forms, and construction process; roof, body, and walls; and bucket and beam-lift structures. The course includes visits to five types of traditional wooden buildings in Taiwan.

This course provides an introduction to Mao Zedong thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It examines how the Chinese Communist Party uses the theoretical results of the Sinicization of Marxism to solve the problems of the Chinese revolution, construction, and reform at various stages. The course also covers the guiding position of Marxism in realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and focuses on the theory and practice of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. A social survey, completed outside of class, is an integral part of the course.
This course provides two separate grades, one for the theory portion of the course and the other for the practice component.

This course enhances students’ communicative competence across five essential skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and intercultural communication. The course equips students with a deeper understanding of the Chinese language and culture. Topics include changing money at the bank, and commenting on one’s actions or behaviors. The course requires a prerequisite of Chinese 4.

This course provides a study of the basic laws and general methods of management activities. Through learning the basic functions of management, the development history of management theory, the comparison of Chinese and foreign management concepts, management and organization design, management types and methods, and management innovation, students can understand the historical evolution process of management theory and the development trend of management practice. At then end, students master the basic laws and general methods of management activities. This course gives students a preliminary understanding of all aspects of management such as business operations, organizational behavior, and general management, and provide students with opportunities to improve their skills in solving management problems. It also provides training opportunities for students to improve their decision-making ability under limited time and incomplete information.
COURSE DETAIL
This course is an introduction to Taiwan's Hakka (KeJia) language and phonetic system by use of Pinyin. Students will use Hakka to introduce themselves and engage in simple conversations. Assessment: Oral participation (50%), final speech presentation (40%), attendance (10%).

This is a professional elective course. This course helps the students to master the basic principles and methods of media creativity. It will systematically explain and master the creative process of audiovisual content products, as well as the necessary knowledge and skills.
