Course Description

From their very beginnings, cinema and then television have taken hold of French history. These productions for both the small and the big screen are the fruit of artistic and aesthetic choices, as well as the bearers of a certain historical perception. Sometimes taking a stand in debates about history and memory, they reflect the past as much as the context in which they were made. This course demonstrates how the history of France has been perceived in works of fiction broadcast on the big and small screens. It also looks at how these works contribute to social and memorial issues.

Course Description
The goal of this seminar is to understand how opinion is formed and to analyze how this opinion, once formed, can play on political, economic, social and foreign policy decisions. The course looks at all the elements that contribute to how the citizen and/or the employee forms their opinion and how this affects the entity, the political, economic or social actors. Should one follow opinions or can one resist when one is in a position of responsibility? The discussions treat all the facets of opinion and their influence on decision-making, as much as conforming to it as distancing oneself from it.

Course Description
The announcement that the world is ending has entered into public debate. The signs are all there: global warming, sixth extinction, the destruction of ecosystems. In this course students consider if the imminence of the Apocalypse is changing radical thinking in politics and what type of politics can be imagined if we are entering into the End of Days. This is the jumping off point of this seminar which proposes to study the politics at the dawn of another threat. The most contemporary theories are studied—collapsology, Anthropocene, survivalism, as well as older theories.

Course Description
Comics are more than a collection of images; this narrative art is read in a complex system of relationships that involves the space of the board, the double board, and the album. This course examines these relationships by focusing on the theme of the quest through comics from the Franco-Belgian domain that showcase a universe of medieval inspiration. Students research this medieval influence and follow its progression through years of publication and in different countries as it appears in the political and social commentary in the world of comics. Students analyze the way the written word interacts with visual images, pushes boundaries of traditional art, and serves as the content of consumable media.
