This course offers an overview of the history of architecture in France and emphasizes on the historical and social context of each piece studied. The historical range goes from: Antiquity with Classical architecture, to the Middle Ages with the Romanesque and the Gothic architecture, to the Modern times with the Renaissance, the Baroque, and the Rococo architecture, to finish with the Contemporary Times and the Neoclassicism.

This course offers an introduction to the role of innovation in the modern economy with a practical focus on the African continent. In the first part of the course, students learn how to conceptualize innovation in a development context. The second part provides an overview of the key stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem, including innovators, governments, public institutions, firms, and financiers. Much attention is paid to the promotion and financing of innovation. In order to help students bridge the gap between theory and practice, several case studies give them the opportunity to explore previously learned theories, concepts, and methods. The large range of applications to African countries furthermore gives students a sense of the spatial dynamics and historical perspectives that play a role in innovation. This course is particularly suitable for (albeit not limited to) students who have already taken courses in international relations, political economy, and micro/development economics and who intend to later pursue careers in policymaking, research, advisory and finance with a focus on promoting innovation. The following are covered: Innovation Theory; defining innovation and other key ideas; models of development and the role of innovation therein; institutional stakeholders; role of the state; financiers.

The goal of this course is to provide students with the tools to analyze and understand the issues of citizenship, nationality, and stake holding in contemporary European societies, using a theoretical and historical perspective, using notably history and political sociology. Several sessions are devoted to case studies (Hungarian minorities and "ethnic" citizenship, the question of the Roms, regional nationalisms in Great Britain or in Spain, etc.). This specific configurations allow students to approach the themes through diverse lenses: the construction of identity, the mobilization of identity, memory, and citizenship.

This translation course is taught at the second-year level. The course focuses on training students how to translate both the tone and grammar of Francophone and Anglophone literature. Students first translate from English to French, and then from French to English. Students are given abstracts from English and French writers, mostly from the latter half of the twentieth century.

Problems in International Politics can be defined as issues to be considered, tackled, or answered thanks to theories, concepts, and methods used in the discipline of International Relations. This course addresses some contemporary international problems by having a look at them through the scientific lenses provided by International Relations. Given the potentially huge domain of international issues, the topics concerned focus on international security, broadly defined, rather than international political economy.

This class is intended for non-biology majors and focuses on a single project for the entire semester. The project is a blog that is to be created on a genetic disease or type of cancer. The purpose is for students, whose concentration is not on biology, to learn more about biological diseases and experimental methods.

This seminar introduces students to law from another prospective: law as narrated in books. Indeed, the legislator, as the writer, is capable of creating a reality. Within the law and literature relationship, many nuances of the law can be captured which help to better understand the juridical world, especially through two opposite legal theories: formalism and legal realism. The seminar helps students to understand law that exists also outside of the codes–in the reality of the fiction. Presenting law through literature is an exercise for future lawyers to predict and interpret many facets of reality. Dickens, Kafka, Sophocles, and Euripides presented characters dealing with different aspects of the law: justice, punishment, guilt, authority. This course invites the students to consider imagination and representation of the law and helps them to imagine, represent, predict, and interpret the world and the law within which they live.

This course examines the national institutions of French politics and the ways in which they interact with one another to create public policy decisions. Main topics include the political regime of the 5th Republic including the executive and the parliament, and the overall role of the governmental administration in shaping policy.
