Course Description

In this course students work hands-on with silk screen to create original prints. This course allows for a combination of media such as Photoshop, design, and drawing to be used in making work. Projects allow for different techniques and hands-on experience and range from prints to small booklets to printing onto fabric.

Course Description
This course presents the fundamentals of descriptive linguistics. It focuses on the study of language and grammar and bases this study on the French language. It also provides an overview of important works by modern linguists such as Saussure, Chomsky and Jakobson. Finally, it covers the overlap between linguistics and other fields of study including neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and history.

Course Description
This course gives students an overview of the history of the English-speaking world from the end of the eighteenth century to the onset of globalization during the twentieth. It studies such themes as the slave-trade, industrial revolution, imperial expansion, military conflict, Commonwealth, culture and identity. The course is designed to help students understand the major ideas, events and social/political movements which have sometimes brought the English-speaking countries together, and sometimes driven them apart. The main objective is to provide students with a synthesis of the evolution of the British World and to enable them to understand better how the challenges of a more diverse international system have progressively and profoundly affected the character and geopolitical role of the United Kingdom.

Course Description
This course is divided in two parts: Economy of the Media and Marketing of the Media. In the economy of the media part of the course, the following topics are covered: operating rules common to the media industry and specific to the media industry, the economic models of the media and the actors present in the media, the causes of the press crisis and the solutions provided by various stakeholders. The course explains the conditions of creation, production and diffusion of the products of the different media. Through the course, students are able to understand the economic specificities of the media companies (diffused products and characteristics of the markets). In the marketing of the media part of the course, new modes of communication and marketing are presented through numerous audiovisual examples. Students analyze new forms of advertising discourse and new types of advertising funding developed by the media. The objective is to sensitize the students to the new forms of advertising communication and to explain the intricate link between marketing and the media.

Course Description

This course on French gastronomy provides an overview of how the food and wine culture became such a distinctive feature of life in France. It addresses both the subjects of food and wine, with a view to giving as informative a perspective as possible. The course covers the evolution of French food culture as well as regional cuisines. It also gives special attention to wine areas as well as the rituals around food and wine. The course thus relies on historical facts, sociological data, and economic figures but is also be an opportunity to get as close as possible to French gastronomy with field trips, dinners, and tastings. The perspective is both French and foreign as it welcomes students’ experience and ideas about French gastronomy.
