This course provides an introduction to key concepts in global environmental policy and politics and their relation to globalization. It addresses the theoretical concepts surrounding environmental problems and globalization and examines their application to pertinent environmental issues, such as air pollution, natural resource depletion, and climate change.

This course provides some insight into most of the major themes and issues on China and the Korean Peninsula. Topics include Nationalism and Political Cultures in China, The Korean War, China-DPRK Relations, ROK-China Relations: From Normalization to 2020, Korea between Ally and Partner: Trump, Xi, and Moon, US-China Rivalry and Sino-Korean Relations, THAAD and a New Normal in Relations between Seoul and Beijing, Implications of and Responses to the "Rise of China", and The Future of “The Rise of China” and the Korean Peninsula.

This course examines Korean development and capitalism from the political economy perspective, exploring how Korean capitalism emerged, what pathway it has taken, and how it will continue to evolve. This course covers various topics in the international and domestic political economy such as economic growth, culture and network, international investment and trade, democratization, globalization, the currency crisis in 1997 and the economic crash of 2008, institutional change and economic reform, restoring democracy in 2016-2017, global pandemic, social justice, and fairness. The main focus is on the roles and interests of governments, businesses, civil society, and foreign investors.

This course covers basic concepts of information theory, and discusses how these concepts are used in machine learning and data science. The first part of the course introduces various information-theoretic quantities including Entropy, Mutual Information, KL-divergence, and provides two main components of information theory: source coding and channel coding. The second part covers how information theory is used in machine learning and data science. Topics include various applications including recommendation systems, supervised learning, generative models, neural network compression, and distributed machine learning. 

The course teaches skills related to garment making, and develops the ability for students to apply the learned concepts to actual clothing product design.

This course examines how to frame and tell compelling stories both orally and visually. It covers how to use story infrastructure in giving presentations and how to communicate meaningfully about oneself.

This course is an application of cognitive science that discusses the history of human-computer interaction and the future direction of development. Especially with the advent of the Web 3.0 era, the social and emotional development of human beings in the computing environment Interaction, cognitive processes, etc. are changing greatly, and the environment of new mankind such as autonomous driving, smart city, twin world, artificial intelligence and cognitive transformation are redefining the industry, productivity, social relationships and values of the future. This course is based on changes in the computing environment and focuses on the transformation and development of human cognition, especially the development of creativity.

This course analyzes Kim Jong Un’s summit diplomacy with South Korea and the United States as an approach to simultaneously pursue security and economic development. North Korea`s nuclear diplomacy with regard to the United States will be the core part of this course. The first half of the course focuses on Kremlinology, leadership analysis, and the succession of the Kim dynasty. In the latter half, historical reviews on North Korea`s foreign policy during the Cold War period as well as post-Cold War period will demonstrate how North Korea`s threat perception influences its provocative foreign policy. Then, the course moves to discuss influences of surrounding countries, namely, China, Japan, and Russia. Lastly, class discussions will be held on the future of North Korea, unification, and inter-Korean relations.

This course provides a study of the fundamental principles of advertising as well as practical experience as a practitioner in an advertising agency. It covers the role of advertising and promotion and their relationship to our media, economy, culture and marketing system. Topics include types of advertising, process of advertising development, consumer segments and targeting strategies, creative strategies, and media channels and characteristics. Students learn the campaign process, write campaign proposals, conduct consumer research and analyze market environments to obtain ad campaign insights, and make professional presentations. 

This course provides a study of the lives, society, culture, and history of modern composers through a medium called film. Composers discussed include Mahler and Shostakovich, Debussy, George Gershine, Penderetsky, Riggety. The course also examines the influence of modern society on works of art and changes in musical dialect.
