This course offers a study of the history and cultures of the United states from its origins to the end of the 18th century. Topics include: indigenous cultures; the meeting of different cultures-- European arrival and African slaves in the American colonies; the cultural and political context of the 18th century.

This course examines the development in oral and written comprehension and expression in modern Persian as spoken in Iran. General content includes: examination of the phonetics and phonology of the Persian alphabet as it is written in the Arabic script; examination of Persian grammar and syntax; study of Persian vocabulary and the similarities/cognates that are found between Persian and other Indo-European languages such as Spanish and English.

This course examines the silencing of women and their exclusion from the canon of universal literature. It introduces the wide spectrum of gender studies and feminist theory in English-speaking countries since the 1960s, in order to analyze, assess, and re-assess novels, short-stories, poems, and other artistic expressions created by women from the end of the 19th century to today. This course discusses female authors who have fallen into oblivion and those who enjoy scholarly prestige and popular recognition. It explores the interaction between gender and feminism, as well as sexuality, sexual orientation, gender roles, the female body and mind, trauma, mental health, motherhood, ethnicity, social class, and women's civil rights during the 20th century.

This is a practical course that employs a simulation of business competition in a global environment. Students work in teams as active participants in the management of a company working around rules set by the instructor using a computer model. The simulation uses knowledge of strategic management, international business, marketing management, human resources, logistics, accounting, and finance. Through class activities, processes, and decision-making the course reinforces the following competencies: adaptation to dynamic teams and environments; successful operation of a business or international marketing project; capacity to take complex decisions and carry out negotiation processes.

This beginning A1 level intensive Spanish language and culture course is geared for students without prior course work or those who have basic knowledge of the language. This course provides an overview of the rationale, role, and impact of public sector intervention in the economy. It begins with a discussion of the fundamentals of public economics, including instruments of public intervention in the case of market failure, equity, redistribution, and social welfare. The course also examines public expenditure, government revenue, and fiscal federalism in conjunction with taxation theories for indirect taxes on consumption, as well as direct personal and corporate income taxes. Particular focus is paid to the study of the current public economics of Spain.
