This political philosophy course offers a study of the basic concepts related to the ethical and legal foundation of society including justice, freedom, security, wealth, property, authority, human rights, forms of government, electoral laws, democratic institutions, etc. It covers political philosophy from Ancient Greece to Marx.

This course offers a historical and systematic analysis of the notion of freedom in its various meanings and dimensions. Topics include: the system of the human condition-- active life and life of the spirit; philosophers and will; concealment and falsification of original phenomena; will as the source of action; freedom and sovereignty; original experiences at the base of the notion of will in the texts of postclassical and premodern tradition-- from Paul the Apostle to Duns Scotus; the cases of Augustine of Hippo and Duns Scotus-- beginning and contingency.

This course focuses on how to model and apply optimization and simulation methods in business decision-making. It discusses linear, discrete, and non-linear models as well as a review of case studies.

This introductory course explores the most important aspects of Islam as a religious and cultural tradition, with special emphasis on the formative period. In addition to studying the sources of Islam, it also focuses on the emergence and development of its main rituals and doctrines.  

This course is designed for UCEAP students at the upper elementary (A2) level to improve, consolidate, and expand grammatical knowledge of the Spanish language. Class meetings are supplemented with practical experiences where students visit emblematic locations in Madrid to practice Spanish communication in real time.

Topics include: electric field; electric potential; conductors; electric current; magnetic field; electromagnetic induction; alternating current; Maxwell's equations; reflection and refraction of light; mirrors, diopters, and lenses; optical instruments.

This course offers a study of spatial and tourism planning. Topics include: planning and tourism-- concept and need for regional planning and tourism; territorial planning methodology and tourism; key concepts in regional planning and tourism; the different modalities of planning; tourist planning in Spain.

This course examines the processes of political and social changes and their impact on economic institutions and processes. Topics include: how to make collective decisions for a group of individuals with heterogeneous needs and preferences; typical failures of different voting rule; designing a voting rule that makes rational decisions and satisfies some minimal democratic requirement; how governments and electoral competition work; why economic competition and electoral competition are so different in nature; the role and influence of interest groups in the political process.

This course addresses the political and cultural dimensions of artificial intelligence and network technologies in a range of global contexts. Through an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates the fields of media and communication studies, critical theory, and the philosophy of technology, the course examines the technical and conceptual elements of machine learning, digital automation, and online communication in order to develop an understanding of their social impacts and historical consequences. Topics include: the structure of neural networks and online protocols; the rise of cybernetics as a political logic and technical form; the history of digital logistics and automation; ethical issues surrounding the widespread installation of these technologies across different sectors of society.
