Course Description
This course covers the basic steps in the finite element method, as well as the modelling and analysis of general flow problems described from a physical context. Common problems within the field of engineering are also discussed, such as heat flow, pipe network flow, ground water flow, and diffusion for both stationary and transient conditions. The course consists of lectures, exercises, and two compulsory design assignments. The first part of the course covers a detailed derivation of all the steps in the finite element formulation for a one-dimensional heat flow problem, including direct approach, strong and weak formulations, approximating functions, and weighted residual methods. More advanced problems are gradually added to this basic knowledge, such as, 2- and 3-dimensional field problems. At the end of the course the theory is extended to the study of transient field-problems. The design assignments illustrate the procedure of transferring a design problem into a model suitable for finite element analysis.

Course Description

The course covers how the nervous system develops, its structure, and how it functions. The course consists of four modules with overlapping themes. The first module is about the development of the nervous system, the different cell types, and parts that form the nervous system, and the functions these have. In module 2, how neurons communicate with each other and how the brain can be changed as a consequence of experiences are learned. Module 3 is about how the brain takes in information from the environment via different sensory systems, how this information is integrated into the brain, and how the brain creates behavior through influence on muscles. Lastly, module 4 reviews how pharmacologically active substances can influence the
brain and how the connection functions between the brain, cognition, and emotions. All modules emphasize which methods are used to produce knowledge about the nervous system. Modules also contain practical components to concretize lectures and required reading.

Course Description

This course provides a sociological perspective on economic, social, and political processes, focusing especially on global social change and sustainable development. Students acquire the knowledge required to understand and critically examine the discussions pursued about the global social change that marks modernity, focusing especially on the post-war period. The course includes four modules, this is the second module: Contemporary Sociological Perspectives on Global Development. The second module focuses on contemporary challenges to development in different parts of the world. It adopts both a macro and a micro perspective reviewing changes regarding the role of the state, labor markets, population structures, and families. Sociological theories and concepts are used to highlight how inequality is created and maintained by different power structures with regard to, for example, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and class, and intersections between them. The module focuses on contemporary economic and political sociology and feminist theory.

Course Description
This is the fourth level for the subject at Lund University. The student continues to develop his/her ability to understand Swedish and produce oral and written Swedish in various contexts. The features particular to Swedish grammar and the Swedish phonetic system are discussed parallel to proficiency training. The course also provides the student with increased knowledge of Swedish life and institutions. The student builds up an active vocabulary through reading texts, and listening comprehension is developed through the use of recorded radio and TV programmes. Texts are studied with the aim of building up a general vocabulary of words and phrases. The ability to discuss, hold a conversation and give short speeches is developed, and pronunciation and grammar are practised using, among other methods, computer-based language programmes. Written language proficiency is developed through the execution of various written assignments.

Course Description

PSYE60 is an introductory course to human and artificial cognition. During the course, students learn about how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to understand human behavior and how psychological phenomena in people can be found in artificial intelligence. The course emphasizes understanding of how natural cognition can be understood with the help of artificial cognition and how psychological phenomena arise in artificial cognition. Application is made in neural networks, natural language processing, AI-generated images, and how AI affects society.

Course Description

The course covers basic principles in developmental biology and molecular genetics with a special emphasis on developmental biology model systems in vertebrates and invertebrates. The most important processes in early embryo development, such as fertilization, cell division, the establishment of position information, polarity and asymmetries, and formation of body axes and gastrulation as preconditions for extremity development, regeneration and formation of the body's most important organs are included. Finally, there is a discussion about the mechanisms behind the self-renewal and differentiation of stem cells and the role of stem cells in the renewal of the body's tissues. The course also includes how developmental biology knowledge can be utilized in the establishment of animal models for studies of human disease mechanisms.

Furthermore, the module covers the research methods used to generate knowledge of child development. Youth psychology where the psychological and biological development during adolescence and its relation to the surrounding environment is reviewed. The ability of the teenager to face challenges and stress factors, such as increased demands for independence and personal views are included. Module 3 covers Personality psychology and the individual differences and different personality functions of adult individuals, which are viewed from different theoretical perspectives. The theories are presented together with a critical review of methods, testing, and fields of application. Lastly. the deployments during adulthood and the aging process based on theories of developmental, personality and social psychology are reviewed.
