Course Description
This course examines a range of American literary texts from the late 19th century to the late 20th century, including fiction, poetry, and drama. Students look at some major American writers including Henry James and William Faulkner, as well as the evolution of 20th-century American literary history in relation to the political and social upheavals at the time. During the course students encounter Native American literature, African American, and Chicano/a literature. The course also explores the aesthetic and generic developments of 20th-century American literature from realism and modernism to postmodernism in the context of key political and cultural developments, such as the two World Wars, Vietnam, the civil rights movement, second wave feminism, late capitalism, and neo-liberalism.

Course Description
This course enables students to understand the need for a holistic approach to international management and leadership in a global business environment. Students learn to recognise key aspects of management theory in an international context, and gain a developed understanding of planning for international business and the need for responsible business behaviour around the world. They also examine theories of change, and implementing and managing change in an international context, and learn to demonstrate communication, analytical and critical skills in relation to case studies of international organizations. Finally, students assess and evaluate management and leadership theories and concepts, and their relationship to international organizations, including a global leisure context.

This course explores some of the contributions made to the social sciences by social and cultural anthropology. Students explore key insights of the discipline and the perspectives that are offered by anthropologists on a range of themes. Course Description
This course covers key sociological dimensions of activities and interactions related to the leisure industries. It focuses on sociological concepts, meaning, structure, and functions in leisure and work. These concepts include the notions of leisure participation, why it is that leisure participation is not evenly or randomly distributed within the population, and what models might help explain that. It investigates key scholars and schools who have advanced thinking in this field, including Pierre Bourdieu, who theorized how tastes are socially acculturated, and the Leicester School, whose work focused on understanding the phenomenon of football hooliganism.
