This course explores the common types of investment and analyzes investment portfolios. Students explore the investment environment, the investment process, mutual funds and other investment companies risk-return-based asset allocation methods, popular index models, theoretical and empirical asset pricing models, and their applications to investment analysis, security analysis, and performance measurement.

Course Description
This course examines a momentous period of British political, social, and cultural history. Topics include imperialist conflict, the growth of nationalism, war, technological change, shifts in the relationships between the sexes, the development of consumerism, the creation of the mass press, the radio and cinema, the emergence of anarchism, socialism, communism, and fascism. Through various forms of literature, this course explores many of the key cultural issues of the period such as the changing notion of the subject; the development of "mass" culture and increased urbanization; the democratization of education; the consequences of science and technology; secularism; new attitudes toward gender, race, and sexuality; and definitions and re-definitions of Englishness.

Course Description
This course addresses the long sweep of European history from the First World War to the present. While essentially chronological in structure, it hinges around the apparent contrast between the two halves of the century. Alongside this consideration of the overall narrative structure of 20th-century European history, students use a broad comparative approach to analyze specific themes of overall importance and explore how they emerged within particular national trajectories. The course ranges across Europe as a whole, cutting across distinctions of East and West, North and South, and encompasses a way of approaching certain events that draws out common features across the continent over the last century.

Course Description
This course explores key ideas in the implementation of compilers for modern programming languages such as Java, including lexical analysis, parsing, semantic analysis based on types and type checking, syntax-directed translation using abstract syntax trees, intermediate languages, and code generation. Students also discuss run-time issues such as garbage collection. This course addresses key ideas in processor architecture such as stack machines and register machines, RISC vs CISC processors, and processor caching.

This course explores advanced syntax and broader lexis which improves the student's receptive and productive skills. Emphasis is on handling authentic materials, including texts of many kinds and audio-visual resources in all media. This course provides an insight into British theatre of all kinds. It exposes students to the theater of Shakespeare, Pinter, and beyond. Course Description
This course examines interactive leisure forms and practices based on digital technologies. It understands digital media as a significant and expanding new media formation; one that is transforming both the content and economics of the culture industries. This course considers the cultural, political, and social implications of new forms of interactive media designed for leisure and entertainment. Topics include computer gaming, networked new media such as networked games, networked social spaces, pornography and other on-line entertainment. In addition, this course explores new forms of convergence between previously discrete media forms - for instance Net-TV collaboration and net-served films.
