Course Description
The course examines a variety of violent crimes. Specifically, it focuses on hate crime, state violence/terrorism and murder. The underlying aim of the course is to understand motivations for violent crime and to critically assess appropriate criminal justice responses. The course will focus on three key areas of violent crime: hate crime, state violence/ terrorism and serial murder, which are areas of increasing topical and policy concern. Each will be examined in relation to policy and the lived reality for victims and offenders. The course examines different victim groups, which might include ethnic minorities, the disabled or women, situating them within the wider field of victimology. The aetiology of offenders will be examined, which spans people who commit 'everyday' violent crime to those who are passionately committed to extremism. Finally, you will evaluate cultural and media representations of violent crime.

Course Description
This course provides an overview of human and non-human animal behavior. It discusses the basic anatomy of the peripheral and central nervous systems, as well as the structure and physiological function of nervous cells. The course introduces systems neuropsychology and the effects of drugs on neuronal functioning. Students examine brain-behavior relations in three areas: the biological basis of emotions in a hormonal and brain systems context; essential motivated behaviors and homeostatic and non-homeostatic peripheral and central mechanisms that underlie drinking and eating behavior; and the brain mechanisms that allow organisms to acquire, store, and retrieve new information and alter their behaviors. The course also takes a more evolutionary perspective to explore how many components and aspects of human behavior have been shaped by adaptation and selection, relying on field studies into the foundations of animal behavior.

Course Description
This course explores how research in cognitive neuroscience has informed the understanding of cognitive processes in the brain. The course draws evidence from a wide variety of methods including case studies of brain-damaged individuals, electrical recordings of brainwaves (EEG), and neuroimaging using fMRI to examine the organization of cognition in the living human brain. Following a discussion of the above primary methods, the remaining lectures are organized around a series of different cognitive processes such as recognizing objects and faces, space and action, memory and amnesia, brain development, the musical brain, executive control of behavior, and understanding numbers.

Course Description
This course explores the Tudor century in England, from 1485-1603, with a focus on England's place in European politics and movements, and in an increasingly global world. At the turn of the sixteenth century, England was a war-torn backwater. By the end, it had established a national identity and the foundations of a global empire. This course explores elements of cultural, political, religious, and social history in the Tudor century, utilizing case studies of individuals, families, communities, and artifacts in order to demonstrate the scale of the change that took place over the course of this century.

Course Description

This course studies examples of successful imagined worlds (Zelda: Breath of the Wild), powerful storytelling (The Last of Us), literary games (Kentucky Route Zero), indie games (Braid), micro-Indies (Problem Attic), and classic adventure games (Monkey Island). Students explore the possibilities of play, world-building, narrative, character-design, game mechanics, and game dynamics. Technical understanding of the medium provides students with an array of opportunities for writing and imagining video games: composing narratives and shooting-scripts, creating avatars, and developing fictional worlds. The course introduces students to game development software, though it is not designed as a coding course. It is ideal for students looking beyond the surface of video games, wanting to engage with thoughtful critique of an emerging industry. The course reflects on the social implications of game design, taking into account discourses around gender, race, and sexuality.
