This course offers a study of memory systems with an emphasis on the neural computations that occur in various stages of the processing stream, focusing on the hippocampus, amygdala, basal ganglia, cerebellum, and cortex. It reviews data obtained from human, non-human primates and rodents, with single unit recording, neuroimaging, and brain damaged subjects.

This course offers an introduction to the orthodox systems of Hindu Philosophy leading up to Vedanta including Nyaya, Vaisesika, Sankhya, Yoga, and Mimamsa. The course discusses topics such as grounds for belief and disbelief in God, the nature of revelation, and means of knowledge.

This course is an independent research project with a final written report. The course allows undergraduate science students to conduct an independent research project under the supervision of a McGill professor, and contains a significant research component that requires substantial independent work by students. A project proposal form must be completed by the student and instructor and approved by the unit head or his/her delegate before the start of the term.

This course is a graduate level course on high-energy astrophysics; undergraduates who wish to enroll in this course require the approval of McGill University and the UCEAP Systemwide Office. The course discusses topics including gas and radiation processes, shocks, supernovae, supernova remnants, neutron stars, compact objects in binaries, accretion disks, active galactic nuclei, X-rays, gamma ray bursts, high-energy telescopes, strong gravity, and magnetic fields.

This course explores major issues in health psychology. Topics include: health effects of stress and stress management; pain mechanisms and management; prevention and management of chronic diseases; hypertension; coronary heart disease; cancer; immunological disorders. It also discusses behavior change strategies for smoking, weight regulation, physical inactivity, and sexual risk behavior.

Course covers several topics each week, including: variation in expressed genes(protein polymorphism); variation in DNA sequences (SNPs, STRs, CNVs); Sequencing and mapping the human genome(HapMap); classical linkage analysis (principles, LOD scores); Mendelian inheritance in man; non-parametric linkage; progress in finding complex trait genes; complex traits and expression phenotypes; genome wide association studies; population genetics and epidemiology; developmental genetics; behavior; genetic screening and therapy; cancer genetics; reproductive genetics; expressed and unexpressed genetic variation and disease susceptibility; gene therapy.

This course offers a study of hormones in organization of CNS function, as effectors of behavior, in expression of behaviors, and in mental illness. Topics include: the endocrine system; interaction between hormones and normal sexual development; abnormal sexual development and sexual behavior; gender identity roles; sex differences in stress; stress and epigenetics; hormones and attachment; hormones and feeding; menstrual cycle and hormone replacement; endocrine disrupting chemicals.
