This course addresses the effective use of emerging technology in Digital Cultural Content Creation including: versatile digital publishing, digital imaging, animation, video, website design, web community development, and media production management.The learning activity designates a hands-on assignment and requires a complete output in the form of publishable presentation.

This course deals with experience. What is it to experience the material world? The course considers how our experiences are conditioned through multiple senses. Whilst the visual realm is, for many, still the fundamental way in which we experience the world this cannot be separated from the intermingling of all senses. In taking this position the course sets out to examine the complex relationships between the different senses and how these affect our engagement with the world around us. With a particular focus on material cultures the course employs a range of cultural contexts from art, architecture, design, sound, and the built environment. It explores these contexts through a variety of thematic approaches including (but not limited to): embodiment; hegemony of the visual; sounding objects; the olfactory imagination; touch and texture; immersive atmospheres; affect; mediated experience; rhythm analysis; creating the multi-sensory.

The International Internship course develops vital business skills employers are actively seeking in job candidates. This course is comprised of two parts: an internship, and a hybrid academic seminar. Students are placed in an internship within a sector related to their professional ambitions. The hybrid academic seminar, conducted both online and in-person, analyzes and evaluates the workplace culture and the daily working environment students experience. The course is divided into eight career readiness competency modules as set out by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), which guide the course’s learning objectives. During the academic seminar, students reflect weekly on their internship experience within the context of their host culture by comparing and contrasting their experiences with their global internship placement with that of their home culture. Students reflect on their experiences in their internship, the role they have played in the evolution of their experience in their internship placement, and the experiences of their peers in their internship placements. Students develop a greater awareness of their strengths relative to the career readiness competencies, the subtleties and complexities of integrating into a cross-cultural work environment, and how to build and maintain a career search portfolio.

This is an introductory level art studio course in mosaics for students who have no prior experience in mosaics and are not art studio majors. Enrollment is by consent of the instructor. The course is held at the Accademia di Belle Arti during the first and second semesters. Students are required to attend both the theoretical part and the studio laboratory and to complete individual projects. Mosaics are generally synonymous with decoration, although historically they have been used especially in the large pictorial projects in cathedrals. The aesthetic qualities of mosaics and their resistance to atmospheric agents and the wear and tear of foot traffic have made them the ideal choice for the decoration of important palazzi and public buildings which the Art Nouveau style (1890-1910) has reclaimed and re-utilized on a large scale. Thanks to this recent revival of mosaics it is necessary - for those who are interested in this art form - to review some of the basic elements of mosaic production, both in the project phase and the actual execution in order to be able to advance to new models and techniques and to create a personal repertoire. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to the Accademia's tradition in the field of ornamentation as it was envisioned by the renowned Bolognese artist Antonio Basoli (1774-1843).

The city invites exploration across a compact and diverse topography, where evidence of the historic and the contemporary can often be found side by side. In an urban site we can discover a range of phenomena, the physical, psychological and ephemeral, all of which invite a wide range of interpretation and response. Through three distinct yet related projects students on this course will be encouraged to employ a variety of tactics in establishing and developing a personal language of response. This could be through drawing, photography, recording, film making, repurposing objects, notation or writing. The course will have recorded lectures and other resources alongside online structured tutorials, and discussion. Art Practice, research strategies, and the presentation of finished work will be addressed through online lectures from a variety of ECA staff with different expertise.
