Course Description
Entrepreneurship is typically approached as a way of thinking and acting, as an attitude or behavior. This course examines entrepreneurship as a manageable process that can be applied in almost any organizational setting. The course explores the many dimensions of new venture creation and growth including the business, technological, financial, legal, human, and ethical considerations in order to foster innovation and new business formation in a variety of settings. The course reviews the background and tools necessary for a solid foundation in terms of the role of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship needed to function effectively in the 21st century global economy. This course combines both an academic and practical view of the challenges facing entrepreneurs. The course focuses on the creation, evaluation, development, and launch of a new business or venture. Students discuss key issues including the basic questions addressed in the formal venture planning process. Students work in groups to create and pitch a new venture at the end of the course.

Course Description

This course examines corporate finance, providing a holistic view of the principles of financial valuation and financial decision making in action. The course aims to broaden and deepen theoretical knowledge and practical experience in valuing complex debt and equity assets; to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between financial risk and return and how this relationship in turn affects the cost of capital, capital structure, and asset values; and extend practical knowledge and skills in valuing cash flows and managing working capital.

Course Description
This course introduces the global principles that structure tourism, the nature and operation of the tourist industry and impact, and the development and management issues that arise from tourism. The tourism and hospitality sectors represent one of the world's largest industries. In New Zealand tourism is a $20 billion industry that generates 9% of GDP. As a highly diverse and innovative industry, as well as a significant source of employment, it is critical that the industry is served by high-quality graduates. This course provides future leaders of the industry, including policy-makers and managers, with critical understandings of the principles that structure tourism and the nature and operation of tourism businesses in New Zealand and globally.

Course Description

The International Management workshop is intended to be a challenging advanced management course for highly motivated undergraduate students. Students will gain a general overview of the process and effect of internationalization in contemporary business, along with an introduction to theories; concepts, and skills relevant to managing effectively in today’s global environment, with a special focus on Japanese firms. Students will be challenged to integrate knowledge they have gained from this workshop and from other courses and apply their accumulated knowledge to business case studies and a group research project. Students will engage in analytical problem-solving related to managing in the international environment and will frequently be called upon to brief their findings to the class. In addition, students will conduct a research project in small groups to resolve ongoing global issues. The topics of these team-based projects will be confirmed before the fifth workshop session.

Course Description

The course provides a study of banking and bank management. The course is divided into three parts. The first part of the course introduces the history and current state of the banking industry (structural characteristics). The second part of the course includes banking performance evaluation and analysis, focusing on banking financial statements and value analysis. The third part of the course covers banking business and risk management.
