Course Description
This course provides advanced development of the Thai language, particularly through analyses of texts from Thai literature, magazines, and newspapers, as well as audio-visual materials on subjects related to Thai culture and society. It offers improvement of language skills for practical work and academic usages. The course covers a variety of formal and informal topics relating to daily routines and social interactions, such as home, school, work, activities, traveling, etc., as well as current events and matters of individual interest and social concerns. At the end of the course, students should have a high level of proficiency in the four language skills of Thai (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in a wide range of Thai contexts; use Thai efficiently in settings; and increase their awareness and concerns of the relationship between Thai language and Thai culture.

Course Description

This course provides basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Thai, to survive in daily life or while travelling. It covers Thai culture and develops a better understanding of Thai conventional manners, as well as acknowledge contraindications in various occasions. The course introduces fundamental grammar and Thai phonetics. It presents the 44 consonants, 32 vowels, five tones in this language.

Course Description
This course provides an introduction to intercultural communication, with specific focus on Thai language and culture. It examines approaches for communicating appropriately and effectively in Thai, both on and off campus, with emphasis on analyzing language rules and the role of culture in communication. Topics include identities and ideologies, beliefs and norms, non-verbal communication, stereotypes and discrimination, collectivism and individualism, high and low context communication, and the class structure. Students learn to converse in everyday situations through activities and field trips that encourage listening and speaking in Thai. Assessment: attendance and participation (10%), 10-minute presentations (40%), Thailand virtual tour presentation (25%), poster presentation (25%).

Course Description

This course develops Thai language proficiency and skills using an integrated approach, through participation in various communicative tasks. Through the exposure to the language, students develop a general understanding of the cultures, the sociolinguistic, and pragmatic aspects of the language. The course covers the basic language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing to maintain communication on common topics.
